REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 19 - Artificial Intelligence startup Imbue said on Thursday it has secured an additional $12 million in follow-on funding to its Series B round, bringing its total raised to over $210 million in cash. In September, Imbue announced its Series B round of $200 million at a valuation of over $1 billion. Imbue is focused on creating a model for enabling so-called autonomous agents, AI systems which promise to perform more sophisticated personal and work tasks such as meeting scheduling or complex data analysis, without close supervision. The key to AI systems that can perform large-scale, real-world tasks is creating AI that has better reasoning capabilities, Imbue CEO Kanjun Qiu said in an interview.

The CEO of Whoop, a fitness band favored by athletes, is claiming victory over Amazon after the e-retailer pulled the plug on its line of Halo devices. Amazon said last week it will discontinue its Halo health and fitness devices, and shut down the Halo program, resulting in some employees being let go. Whoop CEO Will Ahmed said he views the demise of Halo as a win for his startup. He claimed the Halo wristband, which tracks users' physical activity, sleep and mood, was a knockoff of Whoop's own device. Whoop launched its first product, the Whoop 1.0, in 2015.
One major component of that, however, is not very smart at all: the electric panel. The Span panel is capable of measuring every circuit in your home and giving you, as the homeowner, control over the dials. "The Span panel is increasingly becoming a default solution when paired with resiliency products." Buyers of the Span panel are eligible for tax incentives that apply to both the product and its installation. Some homebuilders are adopting the Span panel because it reduces the costs for new builds.
Buying other companies is one option to help maintain its historical 20%-plus annual revenue growth, a person familiar with Amazon's deal process said. While Amazon doesn't necessarily prey on companies in trouble, the company is extremely price disciplined, the person familiar with Amazon's deal process told Insider. Bertucci has been a part of some of Amazon's largest transactions, including leading the MGM and One Medical deals. According to the person familiar with Amazon's deal process, Amazon only brings in investment banks when acquisitions reach roughly the $1 billion mark. Indeed, the One Medical deal alone could have netted Goldman and Morgan Stanley, which repped One Medical, in the tens of millions in fees.
Two gaming veterans have raised €1 million ($1.1 million) for Doppio, a new games studio that builds role-play games you play with your voice. CEO Jeferson Valadares says voice games have become more economically feasible now that it's possible to buy items through Alexa skills. The way people play games is evolving, with most of the major tech companies assuming gaming will go the way of films and Netflix and building out their own game streaming platforms. Doppio's first game is "The Vortex," which you can play on the Amazon Alexa (by asking "Alexa, open The Vortex") or with Google Assistant on your phone. The Vortex, Valadares said, is similar to old-school text-based games, or MUDs, that were popular in the 80s and 90s.
