Washington CNN —Former President Donald Trump used a Monday visit to North Carolina to repeat debunked lies about the federal response to Hurricane Helene. They’ve spent it on illegal migrants,” Trump said. Second, it’s not true that FEMA disaster assistance money was improperly reallocated to migrants. But here’s the key: this $650 million pot is entirely distinct from FEMA’s much larger pot of disaster relief funds. As of last Tuesday, its Disaster Relief Fund had about $8.5 billion remaining, FEMA told CNN’s Ella Nilsen.

An independent, bipartisan review identified “numerous mistakes” by the U.S. Secret Service and “specific failures and breakdowns” that enabled the assassination attempt that injured former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July. “The Secret Service as an agency requires fundamental reform to carry out its mission," the members added. "Without that reform, the Independent Review Panel believes another Butler can and will happen again.”The Secret Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the review. “The increasing demand placed on the agency during this dynamic threat environment has resulted in our people being pushed to the limit,” said Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the Secret Service. The group said it identified “deep flaws in the Secret Service, including some that appear to be systemic or cultural,” including a “lack of critical thinking among Secret Service personnel” and agents’ unwillingness to “speak up” regarding potential threats.

CNN —Lebanese nationals residing in the United States will be granted a form of humanitarian relief, the Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday, citing ongoing armed conflict and conditions in Lebanon. In Michigan – where the Arab American community is a critical voting bloc – this move could boost Harris’ support, the Lebanese Americans familiar with the exchanges said. “TPS will allow us to protect Lebanese nationals who are already in the United States. Alejandro Arredondo, an architect born in Mexico, is among the few who will ever get to work on the Notre Dame in Paris, France, since its construction nine centuries ago. Nearly 6,000 miles from his native homeland, Arredondo is the only Latino working on the restoration of the 860-year-old gothic cathedral. Three months into the job the unimaginable happened: The Notre Dame cathedral was engulfed in flames. The Notre Dame continued to top the lists of most visited monuments in Europe even after it’s closure following the catastrophic fire back in 2019. “I took that element to show that we are capable of doing great things,” said Arredondo.
