It was crumby for chef Tommy Banks when his van containing $30,000 worth of pies was stolen, but Michelin-starred chef has appealed to the thieves to donate them to people in need. The refrigerated van was filled with 2,500 pies with a variety of fillings including steak and ale, turkey and butternut squash, Banks said. He added that it had been “plugged in overnight” to keep the pies fresh. He added that he had planned to sell the pies at a pop-up stall in the nearby city of York. “I hope you don’t get any presents this Christmas,” he said in a separate post on his personal and business Instagram accounts.

For many Lahaina homeowners, rental assistance through their insurance ended in October after they’d spent the first couple of months post-fire filing claims and getting shuffled into hotels. Carolyn Auweloa and Mikey Burke have started Lahaina Community Land Trust so residents have the option to stay in Lahaina or sell within the community. Before they can apply for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s rental assistance, homeowners must first exhaust all of their LOU and ALE policies, which cover rental costs when a disaster makes your home uninhabitable. The Lahaina Community Land Trust understands that funding is an uphill battle, but it has slowly been making gains.

Rosemary S. Pooler, a lifelong champion of consumer rights who broke barriers by becoming the first woman to serve as a state and federal judge in two upstate New York districts, died on Aug. 10 at her home in Syracuse, N.Y. She was 85. Her death was announced by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, where she had sat since 1998. Judge Pooler got her start defending consumers when she was appointed chairwoman and executive director of New York State’s Consumer Protection Board by Gov. Hugh L. Carey in 1975. After setting the internet abuzz last week, Dunkin’ will officially announce Monday the debut of Dunkin’ Spiked Iced Coffees and Iced Teas, which are both scheduled to roll out in the coming weeks. The two malt-based beverages, scheduled for an early September release, will feature eight flavors between them, all based on the chain’s iced coffee and tea flavors. Last year, Pabst Blue Ribbon axed their hard coffee flavor drink because of poor sales. The slightly sweet ice tea flavor is being sold in a six-pack of 12-ounce cans and a single 19.2-ounce cans. Dunkin' Spiked iced tea is coming out in late August.
