An overdue hunter in Alaska was found dead Wednesday after an apparent attack by at least one brown bear, state police said. A search was launched, and his remains were found at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, state troopers said in a daily report of incidents. Investigators know a brown bear was involved because that's the only type of bear in the area, DeSpain said. Alaska has black bears, brown bears — which include grizzlies — and polar bears. There are around 100,000 black bears and around 30,000 brown bears in Alaska, the state Department of Fish and Game says on its website.

A Texas couple and their two young children are missing after their boat capsized over the weekend in Alaska. The missing family was identified as David and Mary Maynard and their children Colton and Brantley. CNN —The search for three people missing after a landslide covered an Alaskan highway on Monday is moving “from an active search to a reactive search,” Alaskan authorities said. CNN —An Alaska man was arrested on Monday after allegedly sending a threatening message to a US senator, writing that he planned to hunt down and physically harm the senator, according to court documents. Arther Charles Graham is charged with making interstate threats to kidnap and injure a current US senator, according to a statement from the Department of Justice. Court documents do not identify the senator, only referring to “she” and “her.” Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski is the only current female Alaska senator. Graham wrote that he was facing eviction and said that he had “nowhere else to live,” according to court documents.
