Abu Dhabi is set to become the next location to showcase multimedia entertainment in the unique spherical structure, the Sphere Entertainment Co. and Abu Dhabi tourism officials announced on Tuesday. The planned venue aligns with the capital of the United Arab Emirates’ Tourism Strategy 2030 aimed at “further establishing Abu Dhabi as a vibrant hub for culture and innovation,” said H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, in a news release. The partnership for the second installment, between Abu Dhabi tourism officials and Sphere Entertainment, is “subject to finalization of definitive agreements,” the news release said. It would involve a “franchise initiation fee” paid to Sphere Entertainment for the right to build the venue.

CNN —Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said he is “happy” that a hearing into the club’s more than 100 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules will begin soon. In May 2023, Guardiola said: “What I would like is that the Premier League or the judges could make [a decision] as soon as possible. City has won the Premier League eight times and the Champions League once since it was acquired by The Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008. Neither City nor the Premier League would comment on the hearing when contacted by CNN. The hearing over the over 100 alleged charges is not the only dispute between City and the Premier League.

CNN —Writings on an ancient clay tablet have allowed experts to reconstruct a Bronze Age ship made of reeds and sail it on a maiden voyage off the coast of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is the world’s largest reconstruction of a Bronze Age Magan boat, according to the team. The research project’s goals were to uncover ancient craftsmanship techniques, determine the connections between Bronze Age societies and better understand the role Abu Dhabi once played in Bronze Age trade. After passing five days of trials, the ship sailed toward Saadiyat Island off the coast of Abu Dhabi and the open sea on March 2 and 3. “Seeing the Magan Boat sail on the water for the first time actually took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes.”

CNN —Manchester City has initiated legal action against the English Premier League (EPL) over commercial rules, the UK’s Times reported on Tuesday. City, which won a fourth successive Premier League title last month, is looking to end the league’s Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, according to The Times, which reported on specific excerpts of the lawsuit. The APT rules came into effect in December 2021 after the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle United. According to The Times, City claims the APT rules are unlawful and are seeking damages from the league. In February 2023, the Premier League accused City of breaching more than 100 financial rules, and allegations included failing to provide accurate financial information, failing to comply with UEFA’s financial fair play (FFP) regulations and failing to follow Premier League rules on profit and sustainability.

Musabbeh Al Kaabi, CEO of Mubadala's UAE Investments platform since January 2021, will head Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's (ADNOC) newly set up Low Carbon Solutions & International Growth business from Jan. 16, Mubadala said in a statement. Mubadala Deputy CEO Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi will become interim CEO of UAE Investments. Kaabi, who began his career at ADNOC where he worked for 16 years including leading the oil giant's Exploration Division, is also a member of Mubadala's Investment Committee. Before heading UAE investments, Kaabi oversaw Mubadala's international energy portfolio as CEO for Petroleum and Petrochemicals from 2017 to 2020.
