An Australian student who disappeared while he was hiking last month has been found alive after having survived for almost two weeks on berries and two muesli bars he found. Then, on Wednesday, a hiking group passing near the search zone heard Hazari calling for help. We heard him saying, ‘I need help,’” Joshua Dart, 30, told the Australian broadcaster ABC. Dart said that he had seen the missing person alert for Hazari but that his group was not actively searching for him. When they found him after almost two weeks, Hazari appeared to have lost track of time, believing it had been only seven days.

Paul F. Oreffice, who as the pugnacious head of Dow Chemical grew and diversified the company at the same time that he rebuffed Vietnam veterans over Agent Orange, argued that the chemical dioxin was harmless and oversaw the manufacturing of silicone breast implants that were known to leak, died on Dec. 26 at his home in Paradise Valley, Ariz. Under his 17-year leadership, which included the titles of president, chief executive and chairman, Mr. Oreffice weathered intense controversies. He had an intense dislike for what he perceived as government meddling in business, which he traced to his having grown up in Italy under Mussolini. “I’ve seen what overgoverning can do,” he told The New York Times in 1987. “I was born under a Fascist dictatorship, and my father was jailed by it.”

This, despite the fact that younger investors were more optimistic about the economy, their incomes, their living situations, and their investments. Millennial investors have been deeply scarred by two life-changing crises in their young lives. But if you look at hard numbers from the Federal Reserve about what millennial investors actually own, you can see that this stereotype is misguided. When you compare millennials' cash levels with Gen X's cash levels at the same age, though, the risk aversion becomes clear. But when it comes to younger investors, I think the scars run deeper than worries about a coming downturn.

The dynamic is bolstering the economic health of the region and keeping the eurozone from slipping too far. In a reversal of fortunes, the laggards have become leaders. Since then, the same countries have worked to mend their finances, attracting investors, reviving growth and exports, and reversing record-high unemployment. Now Germany, Europe’s largest economy, is dragging down the region’s fortunes. It has been struggling to pull itself out of a slump set off by soaring energy prices after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Chipotle Mexican Grill is abandoning its Farmesa Fresh Eatery spinoff after partner Kitchen United closed its ghost kitchens. A little over a year ago, Chipotle announced the opening of its first Farmesa location at Kitchen United's Santa Monica location. But the Santa Monica ghost kitchen closed in February as its parent company struggled financially. In November, Kitchen United announced plans to close or sell all of its locations as it pivoted into software. But once customers started returning to dining in person and capital grew more expensive, many ghost kitchen startups like Kitchen United found themselves in trouble.

Direct-to-consumer brands – household names like HelloFresh, Peloton, Allbirds, Stitch Fix, Warby Parker and Rent the Runway, which cut out traditional retailers, wholesalers and other middlemen – have been falling. Investors shied away from high-growth stocks and retreated into companies with solid fundamentals and, most importantly, lots of profit. The problem is that none of these direct-to-consumer (DTC) companies have managed to make the transition to profitability themselves. Rent the Runway was down $114 million, and mattress company Purple lost about $121 million. Other companies, like SmileDirectClub, which went public in 2019, and Winc, a wine subscription company that went public in 2021, have declared bankruptcy.

The assault that forced the evacuation of the hospital and left dozens of homes ablaze was blamed on the Brooklyn gang. Previous attacks in Cite Soleil and other areas have left hundreds of civilians dead as gangs pillage communities, raping and killing people inside their homes. During the recent clashes in the sprawling seaside slum that led up to Wednesday’s attack, gangs could be seen traveling by boat to surprise and kill rival gang members, Ulysse said. Then, after everyone inside the hospital grew quiet, she heard gangs outside arguing whether or not to burn the facility. Those interviewed praised the police and Ulysse, who pleaded for help via social media as the facility came under attack.

More Brits than ever say Brexit was wrong choice: YouGov survey

LONDON, July 18 (Reuters) - The proportion of Britons who say Brexit was a mistake hit a new record high this month, a survey from pollsters YouGov showed on Tuesday. With few economic benefits to show for the June 2016 vote to leave the European Union, 57% of Britons said the decision to leave the European Union in 2016 was the wrong one, compared with 32% who thought it was correct. More than half - 55% - said they would vote to rejoin the EU, against 31% who said they would stay out, if a referendum were to be held today. YouGov said the results marked a "moderate shift" from January 2021, when 49% said they would vote to rejoin and 37% to stay out. The YouGov survey of more than 2,000 British people showed 63% now regard Brexit as more of a failure than a success, compared with 12% who saw it as more of a success.

Venture capital funding into startups has drastically slowed. Corporate venture capital grew in 2022 and looks to grow again in 2023, bucking the broader downturn. Continuing a pullback in funding activity in 2022, venture capital into European startups fell by 32.1% in Q1 of 2023, per Pitchbook data. Faced with the prospect of raising down rounds at slashed valuations, startups are turning to an alternative mode of funding — corporate venture capitalists. Now, two voting-technology companies, Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic, want to make another Murdoch media property pay even more for Fox News's role in spreading election denial. But the phone-hacking scandal showed how Murdoch has weathered challenges to his power before. Another key difference from the phone-hacking scandal is the presence of written records that show Fox execs knew exactly what was going on. In the last quarter of 2022, Fox Corp. netted $321 million on $4.6 billion in revenue. And during the phone-hacking scandal, Murdoch showed fierce loyalty.
