CNN —The father of a Hawaii woman who went missing two weeks ago was found dead on Sunday, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Ryan Kobayashi had traveled to Los Angeles to help find his daughter, Hannah Kobayashi. After tirelessly searching throughout Los Angeles for 13 days, Hannah’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, tragically took his own life. She had the same itinerary as her ex-boyfriend, who, unlike Hannah, boarded a connecting flight to New York City from Los Angeles. CNN —Human error led to the death of a young gorilla in Alberta, Canada, according to officials at the Calgary Zoo. The gorilla died of traumatic head injuries, according to the statement. “This tragedy has struck us all in the deepest way imaginable,” Colleen Baird, Calgary Zoo’s director of animal care, said at a news conference. “We love and care for more than 4,000 animals representing over 100 species that call our zoo home,” a spokesperson for the Calgary Zoo said in a statement to CNN. Scientists called Campeche an archaeological “blank spot” in the Maya Lowlands, an area spanning what is now Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala and southeastern Mexico, and which the Maya inhabited from about 1000 BC to AD 1500. Like other large capital cities from Maya sites, Valeriana had a reservoir, a ball court, temple pyramids and a broad road connecting enclosed plazas. In total, the researchers identified 6,764 structures in Valeriana and in other rural and urban settlements of varying sizes. In the north, Maya sites such as Chichén Itzá are highly visible. Seven of the jurists’ resignations are effective August 31, 2025, while Aguilar will leave office on November 30. The slate of resignations heightens tensions between Mexico’s Supreme Court and the ruling bloc, increasing the risk of a constitutional crisis as Congress and the presidency remain at odds with the judiciary over the reform. ROSWELL, N.M. — The New Mexico National Guard continued search and rescue operations Sunday in Roswell after record rainfall produced severe flooding in and around the city and Chaves County and left at least two people dead. Guard officials said 309 people had been rescued since Saturday, with 38 of those taken to hospitals for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Roswell city officials said water levels had receded in many parts of the city but remained high in the downtown area. Search and rescue efforts are underway in Roswell, N.M., on Sunday, following severe flooding. Authorities set up a shelter at the Eastern New Mexico state fairgrounds for Roswell residents displaced by the flooding.

CNN —At least one person has died and hundreds have been rescued in Roswell, New Mexico, after extreme overnight rainfall brought severe flooding, stranding motorists and sweeping away cars. The New Mexico National Guard and other agencies have rescued at least 290 people, including 38 who were taken to hospitals, the agency confirmed in a statement. The National Weather Service declared an overnight flash flood emergency for Roswell and nearby areas, as emergency management within Chaves County reported numerous water rescues. “We feel for the New Mexicans affected by this latest flooding in our state,” said Maj. Gen. Miguel Aguilar, the New Mexico National Guard’s Adjutant General. “Because of the previous flooding in Ruidoso, we have the experience and were ready for this.
