CNN —A stained-glass Tiffany window originally designed for an Ohio church has sold for $12.48 million at auction. This is the first time the window has come to auction in 24 years and the sale sets a new auction record for Tiffany Studios. It sold for $2 million back in 2000, which was a world record for a Tiffany window at that time. That was the “thematic precursor” for the Danner Memorial Window 10 years later, Sotheby’s said in a press statement. The museum acquired Garden Landscape, designed in 1912, a three-part window designed by Northrop, last year.

But new research suggests that one English woman convicted of witchcraft and condemned to be hanged may have escaped the noose. Alice Molland – who has long held the tragic record of being the last woman in England to be hanged as a “witch” – was sentenced to death in 1685. In June 1685, Avis Molland – by now widowed – emerges in court records as an informant about a potential revolt, at a time when the Duke of Monmouth was attempting a rebellion against the king. Avis Molland died a free woman eight years later. Worland has spent 18 years unearthing victims’ details, and has successfully campaigned to have memorials to executed “witches” in Colchester and Chelmsford.

CNN —United Nations members voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to demand that Israel end its occupation of Palestinian territories within 12 months. Navigating the time zone to buy tickets was the hardest part, as we hadn't yet moved to France from the United States. The cost was reasonable, too, with tickets to many events starting at about 25 euros ($27). Once the Games began and we attended our first few events, I realized it would've been quite easy to wait until the Olympics started to nab tickets instead. One day, I had the option to purchase quarter-final handball tickets for 24 euros or tickets to the men's boxing semi-finals for 305 euros. I didn't buy them, but I was surprised to find that the Olympics could be a show-up-and-go event if you're flexible enough.

I traveled to my first Art Basel, an international art fair hosted each summer in Basel, Switzerland. Marian is among a group of mixed-race children whose mothers say they were conceived after rape by British soldiers training in Kenya. Mixed-race children continue to be born in the remote villages where the British Army trains its soldiers in Kenya. One of the more contentious accusations against British soldiers involves the case of Agnes Wanjiru. Allegations of rape and other crimes, including murder, by British soldiers deployed there date back to the 1950s. The UK investigators did not conduct DNA tests on any of the 69 mixed-race children alleged to have been born from rape by British soldiers.
