The holiday shopping season is upon us, and our retail stocks are well-positioned to thrive, according to Wall Street research firm Telsey Advisory Group. Telsey Advisory expects value-seeking to be a key theme among shoppers this year, which puts companies with reputations for good deals on solid ground. Overall, the firm expects holiday retail sales up between 3% to 3.5% this year, compared with 4.6% growth last year and a 5.4% increase in 2022. Costco has had a good year so far, and that should continue in the final months of 2024, Telsey Advisory argued. Big picture Telsey Advisory selecting these four Club stocks as preferred names this holiday season reflects their competitive chops within their respective categories.

For years, China ramped up green energy production capacity, becoming the global leader in renewable energy manufacturing, from solar to wind to battery. In a second Trump administration, prices for imports from China are likely to surge for green energy producers. The view is that First Solar will benefit the most within the U.S. solar sector from greater trade restrictions, according to Baird. Ultimately, that may curtail the number of green energy startups and private companies that want to go public, Schleif said. "It's been really hard to compete with Chinese companies in any way, shape or form."

Watching your investments slide into the red can be a stressful experience for anyone, especially for the money you're setting aside for long-term goals like retirement. As a financial planner, I encourage a proactive approach to recession-proofing your retirement, including switching the bulk of your portfolio to safer investments with consistent rates of return. Instead, their interest rates are tied to the overall stock market, like the S&P 500. These annuities often pay more interest over time, as the stock market historically rises over time. They'll be much less likely to lose value if the stock market keeps dropping.

I started investing for the first time at age 32 without a ton of knowledge or a specific plan. That's why I decided to sit down with financial planner Kelly Klingaman to find out just how messy my investment portfolio really is and what I can do about it. Investing 15-20% of my portfolio in cryptocurrencyIt wasn't until I sat down to audit my financial portfolio that I realized how big a share of my investments are in cryptocurrencies. I shared with Klingaman that I have a habit of investing too little money in too many individual stocks. Doing so will hold me accountable every month with a minimum amount of money I want to add to my investment portfolio.

Passive income streams are a great way of mitigating your financial risk and earning extra income. I talked to financial advisors and accountants about lucrative passive income streams they've seen. Owning a parking lot, real estate, blogging, and online courses can generate over $100,000 a year. To help mitigate personal financial risk, I try to create as many passive income streams as I can. Over the years, I've built multiple passive income streams for myself including courses, e-books, and selling merchandise.

The idea of investing has always terrified me, because I worry that I don't know what I'm doing. The idea of investing my money used to absolutely terrify me. We all have our own reasons, but I know I'm not the only person who's approached the stock market with trembling hands. The average stock market return is about 10% every year. That's why I asked financial experts to explain the main differences between index funds and mutual funds. An index fund can be a mutual fundEven though it might sound confusing, Clayton Wood, a financial planner, says a good first step in understanding that an index fund is a mutual fund, but a mutual fund is not always an index fund. Index Funds have a lower expensesWhen it comes to fees, Alvin Carlos, a financial planner, says that index funds are low-cost mutual funds. "Most actively managed funds are mutual funds, but there are also many index mutual funds." Mutual funds experience capital gain distributionsOne of the biggest differences between mutual funds and index funds is when taxable events occur for each.

I asked financial planners where I could invest my money other than the stock market. Early last year, when I finally decided to invest some of the cash sitting idle in my high-yield savings account, I turned to the stock market. I've come a long way since then, optimizing my stock market strategy to include studying earnings reports and being more strategic with my picks. If you're paying your bills on time every month, you might think you're doing well with money. If you're spending more than you're making, you can't save towards goals, and you might start carrying balances on credit cards. You don't have spending goalsIf you're just aimlessly spending, you're probably not spending on the right things. Setting up spending goals is like setting up a budget, but your spending goals should be more specific. I followed Hallam's advice and invested in index and bond funds, and my portfolio has grown consistently for four years. I keep a ratio of 70% stock funds and 30% bond funds, with an even split between international and domestic stocks. If stock market index funds are unsexy, then bonds are flat-out frumpy. Stocks could continue to gain momentum in the week ahead as traders turn their attention to earnings results after the past week's softer inflation news. The major benchmarks are headed for a positive week Friday after encouraging consumer and wholesale inflation in June cemented the likelihood that the Federal Reserve is closer to the end of its rate-hiking campaign. Home prices could tumble 20% in some of the hottest US markets, top investor Peter Boockvar said. He cited the surge in prices during the pandemic, and soaring mortgage rates pricing out buyers. The Bleakley Advisory boss warned a housing slump could hit consumer spending and the wider economy. "It's an extraordinary rise, and now you have 7% mortgage rates, which are 15-year highs," he said. Paul Krugman, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, has also predicted a housing slump.
