Only a small share of employees work fully remotely. During the pandemic, many departments allowed more staffers to telecommute — though about half of federal employees continued to work fully in person. Looking at all federal employees, nearly 80% of the hours they work are in person, the OMB report found. “I don’t think you can just eliminate a quarter or half of federal employees on an ad hoc basis without paralyzing the government,” he said. It could also prompt talented federal employees to seek jobs in the private sector.

Is TikTok trying to secretly influence Americans at the behest of the Chinese government? And an analysis of the ownership structure of TikTok parent company ByteDance, obtained by NBC News, argues that the company is deeply entangled with some of China’s major government propaganda organs. The most recent one, published last month, found that TikTok suppresses anti-China content compared to YouTube and other social media platforms. In recent years, according to media reports, Chinese government entities have increasingly taken golden shares in technology companies. “This report establishes that TikTok algorithms actively suppress content critical of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) while simultaneously boosting pro-China propaganda and promoting distracting, irrelevant content,” the researchers wrote.

Police officers arrested 13 pro-Palestinian protesters on Wednesday who had barricaded themselves in the office of the president of Stanford University and demanded that administrators meet several demands, including a vote by the university trustees on whether to divest from companies that are said to support Israel's military. The protesters had entered the building around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, and university police officers arrived at the scene after they were alerted of the occupation, according to Ms. Mostofi. The building houses the offices of the university’s president, Richard Saller, and provost, Jenny Martinez, among others. Wednesday is the final day of classes for the spring quarter at Stanford. A major mistake job candidates make is not asking questions at the end of an interview. She said a job interview is a "two-way experience" for both parties to learn more about each other. AdvertisementGetting to the end of a job interview and not having any questions for the recruiter can actually be a major red flag, according to an ex-Meta recruiter. And it's important to make sure your questions aren't too general, Nolan Church, a former Google and DoorDash recruiter, told BI. Candidates should make sure their questions are specific to the company, its mission, and its leaders, he said.

BANGKOK (AP) — Military-ruled Myanmar on Tuesday allowed prisoners to have family visitors from outside, a right that had been suspended for 3½ years because of the coronavirus pandemic, the military’s information office and prison officials said. Visitors must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccinations and a household relationship to the prisoner being met. Family visitation rights were suspended after the coronavirus pandemic began in early 2020. Most sectors of society gradually reduced or dropped testing requirements and other virus-fighting measures since 2022, but family visits to prisoners had remained banned. The total number of prisoners held in Myanmar, not only political detainees, isn't publicly known.

Callers who have sought help from the Social Security Administration in recent years have reported long wait times, dropped calls and inability to access the agency's services. A new report from the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General finds the agency experienced more than 40 telephone system disruptions between May 2021 and December 2022. BEIJING, April 6 (Reuters) - The rebound of China's economy will be further consolidated and tax revenues in the second quarter will likely grow faster, but the economy still faces many uncertainties at home and abroad, the taxation administration said on Thursday. The world's second-biggest economy grew 3% last year, the weakest in nearly half a century. To spur growth in 2022, China cut fees and gave credit rebates on tax to private businesses that were hit hard by stringent COVID-19 lockdowns and curbs. In 2022, the tax and fee cuts, tax refunds and deferred payments totalled 4.2 trillion yuan, according to the finance ministry. That included 2.4 trillion yuan in VAT tax rebates, the largest in recent years.

Social Security benefits are typically subject to partial withholdings after prolonged federal student loan delinquencies. Therefore, experts say, hiring Black teachers is necessary to address the racial disparities that lead to poor educational outcomes and criminalization for Black children. Furthermore, advocates say that Black students who don’t have Black teachers are less likely to become teachers themselves, so commitments to diversifying the industry must start early on in the classroom. The Black Teacher Project in Oakland, California, works with Black teachers to “reimagine schools as communities of liberated learning,” the Project’s website reads. It also teaches educators how to implement restorative practices in their classrooms and invites them to retreats to foster community among Black teachers. “Therefore, the Black Teacher Project’s motto is ‘Every child deserves a Black teacher.’”
Insider learned about the WADU system through interviews and leaked internal documents that explain what kinds of data it captures. Though the use of Palantir was reportedly for security purposes, JPMorgan employees who spoke to Bloomberg said the situation quickly escalated. When companies are opaque about how they use employee data, the consequences can be detrimental — from harming employee "engagement" to eroding their "mental health," Garr said. Companies that fail to do this run the risk of cultivating the kind of mistrust that JPMorgan employees claim is running rampant through their ranks. "It does not sit well with me, what they're doing," said the US-based staffer with direct knowledge of the WADU system.
