A shutdown would disrupt government services including the publication of major U.S. economic data such as keenly-watched employment and inflation reports that can move equity and bond markets globally. "If the government data releases are suspended, this will increase volatility and decrease visibility, in a time when forecasting is already difficult," said Clifton Hill, global macro portfolio manager, at Acadian Asset Management. Hill said that investors would have to make assumptions based on survey and non-government economic data that is available. Key government data releases due over the next two weeks include jobless claims, unemployment and inflation, which influence monetary policy. Peter Vassallo, a foreign exchange portfolio manager at BNP Asset Management said delays in economic data "is unfortunately just something that we have to deal with as it comes."

Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for the second quarter of 2023 were $2.17 billion, versus $2.36 billion a year before. That was partially offset by higher revenues from increased volumes on its natural gas liquids, natural gas and crude oil businesses, it said. Enterprise sees natural gas liquids pricing and ethane pricing as constructive in the second half of 2023. During the quarter, the company saw operational records for natural gas pipeline volumes and natural gas liquids fractionation volumes. It brought online new projects including the 400 million cubic feet per day expansion of its Haynesville Extension of the Acadian natural gas pipeline system, and its Poseidon cryogenic natural gas processing plant in the Midland Basin.

Assembly is a software app aimed at helping businesses manage their teams and projects. Here's the pitch deck it used to fundraise at an interesting time for the business apps category. Instead of splurging on a dozen business apps, they want "one single Swiss Army knife," said Hunter Walk, an Assembly investor. Fiona bears down on northeast Canada as big, powerful storm
  + stars: | 2022-09-24 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +6 min
A youth rides his bycicle at the seaside in Nagua, Dominican Republic, on September 19, 2022, as Hurricane Fiona passes through the country. Fiona, which started the day as Category 4 storm but weakened to Category 2 strength late Friday, was forecast to make landfall in Nova Scotia early Saturday. The Canadian Hurricane Centre issued a hurricane watch over extensive coastal expanses of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Fiona should reach the area as a "large and powerful post-tropical cyclone with hurricane-force winds." It was centered about 140 miles (220 kilometers) southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, heading north at 46 mph (74 kph).
