The All England Club announced on Wednesday that from the 2025 championships onwards, electronic line calling (ELC) will be used after it was successfully tested in 2024. ELC will replace the line judges who call “out” or “fault” during a match and will also be used in Wimbledon qualifying ahead of the tournament. But to American photographer and journalist Nick Pachelli, a tennis court is the harmonious union of surface, sound, and spectators, complemented by the natural elements and the inherent intensity of tennis. “Tennis is our only sport where the canvas on which we play can change so dramatically,” Pachelli, a former top junior tennis player himself, told CNN, highlighting each court’s “unique persona,” as he describes in his new photobook, The Tennis Court. During more than 500 days of travel, Pachelli visited over a thousand courts (of the roughly 200 in the book), crisscrossing more than 250 cities and towns in his pursuit of spotlighting the world’s most aesthetic, esteemed, and even idiosyncratic tennis courts. Reached by a few hundred steps, the tennis court at Hotel Il San Pietro Di Positano in Italy is between the cliff face and the pebble beach. CNN —Portugal’s Nuno Borges played the match of his life to comfortably beat Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-2 in the final of the Swedish Open and claim the first ATP title of his career. Borges’ victory in his maiden ATP Tour final – against Nadal on clay, no less – lifts him to a career high of No. 161, was playing in his first final since the 2022 French Open, but two mammoth three-set victories in the previous two rounds had perhaps taken their toll on the 38-year-old. However, Nadal revealed after losing in the first round of the French Open that he is open to continuing his career should his body continue to improve.
