The parents of a Massachusetts high school senior are suing his teacher, school district faculty members and a local school committee for punishments he received after he used artificial intelligence tools to research and create an outline for a history class essay. The lawsuit is one of the first of its kind in contesting school discipline over the use of AI to complete academic work. The complaint said the school’s AI policy was added to the Hingham High School student handbook only the year after the plaintiff’s son was punished. “It’s underregulated, especially in a school setting,” Peter Farrell, the family’s lawyer, said about AI in a phone interview. “AI is an output from a machine.”The student’s school district, Hingham Public Schools, said it was unable to provide further details during ongoing litigation and to respect the student’s privacy.

For example, this season started with the banks roaring higher on great numbers, legitimately great numbers led by a phenomenal Bank of America quarter. The later just made no sense because it is pulling away from Intel on the low end and if Nvidia really does have production problems then AMD is the de facto winner. In fact, the only stock that didn't suffer from an Nvidia relation, Apple, got through earnings without too much trouble. While stock splits don't affect a company's value, they can catalyze a move higher or lower, according to Wolfe Research. Artificial intelligence chipmaker Nvidia announced a 10-for-1 stock split as part of its quarterly earnings report on May 22. Here are the favorable criteria Senyek identified: Large market capitalization Higher absolute share price Multiple stock splits in the past "Larger cap, higher price and multiple splits is the 'sweet spot' for stock splits' signaling mechanism," said Senyek. Citi's resulting Super Seven picks are Novo Nordisk , ASML , LVMH , SAP , Schneider Electric , Richemont and Ferrari . All of the stocks stocks also trade in the United States. Despite the rally over the past year, Citi points out that as a group, the Super Seven have lagged the Magnificent Seven, with 70% less appreciation since early 2023, leaving more upside potential. CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday reacted to Bank of America 's bullish outlook for 2024, agreeing that it's possible S&P 500 could reach 5000 by the end of next year. "Broadly speaking, I actually agree with Savita Subramanian at Bank of America that we could go to 5000 on the S&P," he said. The S&P 500 is seen by most on Wall Street as the best gauge for large-cap U.S. stocks, and it closed on Tuesday at 4,538.19. After a tough few months, the S&P 500 has seen a turnaround, advancing 8.4% for the month, it's largest monthly increase since July 2022. Small caps have been struggling versus their peers as a rising interest rate environment has absolutely punished these growth companies. My thesis of small caps finally getting up off the mat is based upon my recent and lonely call of U.S. Treasury yields relenting. In addition, I have repositioned my model portfolios' exposure to include small caps for the remaining six trading weeks of 2023. "Bid" meaning that I am not alone in this idea of small caps finding some legs between now and the end of the year. This risk reversal is being used as an aggressive bull trade.

Doug Mills/Pool via REUTERS Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Oct 4 (Reuters) - The United States is expected to soon announce that it will send seized Iranian small arms and ammunition to Ukraine, a U.S. official said on Wednesday. A U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said an announcement could come as early as this week. The seized weapons being transferred are also unlikely to ease concerns about the continued flow of western weapons to Kyiv. Last year, Britain's Royal Navy said one of its warships had seized Iranian weapons, including surface-to-air-missiles and engines for cruise missiles, from smugglers in international waters south of Iran. The United States has put pressure on its ally Saudi Arabia to end the war and linked some U.S. military support to the kingdom to ending its involvement in Yemen.

In theory, the more return you hope to earn from an investment, the more risk you'll have to take on. While most asset classes follow the risk/return rules, a couple notable outliers emerge. Commodities, despite being one of the jumpier asset classes, offer the weakest 20-year return at 0.73%. There are compelling cases to be made that, given their outsize performance, large stocks are overvalued compared with other asset classes, such as small-company and developed and emerging markets stocks, Stovall adds. REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 7 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs (GS.N) and Morgan Stanley (MS.N) are poised for stronger results next year compared to other large-cap U.S. banks as dealmaking on Wall Street picks up and asset management businesses gain momentum, HSBC said on Thursday. The brokerage said that Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley should post high single-digit to low double-digit revenue growth in 2024 and sizable earnings growth in 2024 and 2025 after being weighted from a decade-long low in investment banking. Lead analyst Saul Martinez believes a "bifurcation" is emerging in revenue forecast between traditional and capital markets-focused banks and picks Goldman Sachs as the brokerage's preferred name in its coverage. "We see deal activity picking up: even in a sluggish economic growth environment, greater visibility regarding the direction of economic growth, interest rates, and inflation should trigger more equity and debt issuance and M&A activity," Martinez said.
