Despite companies' high expectations for productivity gains from generative AI technology, workers are finding far different results when those tools are added to their jobs. Nearly all of C-suite leaders — 96% — polled in an Upwork Research Institute study in July said they expect the use of gen AI tools to increase their company's overall productivity levels. More than 75% of employees said gen AI tools have even decreased their productivity and added to their workload. Meanwhile, companies are also increasing their spending on new AI tools. The three-day in-office hybrid work schedule is a "win-win-win," according to a study published in the prestigious science journal Nature. Non-manager attrition for hybrid employees had a 2.4% rate, a one-third reduction from the control group of 7.2%. When managers measured employees in nine categories of performance, execution and results, hybrid employees succeeded at the same rate. By the end of the experiment, managers positively viewed hybrid work as a potential asset to the company rather than a detriment to productivity. Rising disposable incomes are set to power India's consumption story, further boosting the country's consumer sector that is fast becoming a key driver for economic growth. His comments came on the back of a Goldman Sachs report last week that predicted around 100 million people in India will become "affluent" — earn an annual income exceeding $10,000 — by 2027. Currently, 60 million people in the world's fifth-largest economy earn more than $10,000 — around 4% of India's working age population — according to the report released last week. The country's consumer market is set to become the world's third-largest by 2027, as the number of middle- to high-income households rises.
