Democratic Sen. John Fetterman said Thursday that the federal cases against President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden and the New York hush money case against President-elect Donald Trump were both “politically motivated” and deserving of pardons. Fetterman told a small group of reporters in the Capitol that the tax and gun cases against Hunter Biden were “politically motivated” and “weaponized for political gain,” comparing them to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against Trump. “The same thing was done with Trump with the New York case. Fetterman didn’t directly answer when asked if he’s calling on Biden to pardon Trump. Fetterman echoed Biden’s sentiment that “raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice,” which the president wrote in his official statement announcing Hunter Biden’s pardon on Sunday.

Wayne Northrop, an actor who played two roles on the long-running daytime soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” as a good-hearted detective and then as a shadowy doctor, died on Friday. Mr. Northrop, who learned six years ago that he had early onset Alzheimer’s disease, died at the Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home in Woodland Hills, Calif., according to a family statement from his publicist, Cynthia Synder. He appeared in several television shows throughout his career, including the prime-time legal drama “L.A. Mr. Northrop appeared in 35 episodes. Mr. Northrop was probably best known for his roles on “Days of Our Lives.” The show, which premiered in 1965 on NBC, follows various characters in the fictional Midwestern town of Salem.

On Tuesday, Trump’s transition team signed an agreement with the White House after months of postponing the traditional transition process – a delay that Biden officials warned could undermine an orderly transfer of power and pose national security risks. In a statement announcing the agreement, the Trump transition said it will use its own security and information systems, its own office spaces and maintain its own ethics plan. The transition team said its ethics plan will be posted online in compliance with federal law. Several of Trump’s picks have vast personal fortunes and deep ties to the private sector. Trump’s transition team has so far relied instead on internal vetting.

Mankato, Minnesota CNN —As a high school marching band played a rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz walked down the 50-yard line at Friday’s crosstown rivalry football game between Mankato East High School and Mankato West High School. After the coin toss, Walz took a seat on the bleachers, where he took selfies and signed autographs alongside his mother, Darlene Walz. The governor cheered throughout the game as Mankato West took an early lead, and although he departed at halftime, Mankato West held on to win 28-7. Before the game, Tim Walz stopped by Mankato West to greet players as they left for the stadium and speak to old colleagues.
