But honestly, I have no interest in having kids of my own. Being child-free has allowed me to have friends of different ages and backgrounds. I'm able to have friendships with friends of different ages and backgroundsI can say that being child-free has likely allowed me to have the time, space, and energy to make friends of all ages and backgrounds. Not having kids has afforded me greater space to be present for others — as a friend, daughter, partner, cousin, and "auntie."

The two NASA astronauts who have been stuck on the International Space Station since their Boeing spacecraft ran into problems in June will have to remain there even longer, the agency announced Tuesday. They include NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, who launched on the challenge-plagued first test flight of Boeing’s Starliner vehicle. The two originally intended to spend about a week at the space station but will wind up having lived and worked in orbit for more than nine months, including the added time for the latest delay. When the capsule launches — a mission known as Crew-10 — it is expected to carry NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Russian cosmonaut Kirill Peskov and Japanese astronaut Takuya Onishi. Until then, the foursome will continue training for their mission at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, NASA said.

The stock prices of America’s largest health insurance providers — including Aetna owner CVS Health, Cigna and Humana — have also tumbled recently. As of Tuesday’s closing bell, the Dow had fallen 1,564 points since Dec. 4, with UnitedHealth Group accounting for 804 of those points. UnitedHealth Group is also the worst performer in the 30-stock index this month, with losses more than double those of the second-worst performer, Goldman Sachs. Once again, CVS, UnitedHealth Group, Cigna and Humana all rank as the worst performers, with double-digit losses of 18% to 25%. Those businesses have drawn widespread criticism in part because many of the biggest insurance providers, including UnitedHealth Group, Cigna and CVS, also own some of the largest such companies.

Two men have been charged in Boston federal court in connection with a fatal drone strike in Jordan that killed three U.S. service members and injured dozens earlier this year. Abedini was further charged with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization — the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The men allegedly conspired to evade U.S. sanctions and supply the Iranian government with a type of drone navigation technology used in the Jan. 28 drone attack at the Tower 22 base in Jordan, a U.S. military outpost, prosecutors said. The drone, launched by IRGC-backed militants, made impact near a shelter where some troops were sleeping and killed three U.S. service members. The two men allegedly conspired to procure goods and technology from Sadeghi’s place of work and exported them and supplied them to Iran to Abedini’s Iranian company SDRA.

CLEVELAND — Fresh off a comfortable re-election victory in 2018, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, considered running for president on a populist message aimed at the many working-class Midwest voters who had fled the Democratic Party in favor of Donald Trump. He spoke of a “post-Senate mission” to reorient Democrats as the “party of workers” in Middle America. “But I lost in large part because the national reputation of the Democratic Party is that we are sort of a lighter version of a corporation — a corporate party. And that’s one of the reasons that working-class voters have been willing to look away from the Democratic Party. Brown talks of NAFTA like it’s an original sin for his party — the moment Democrats began losing the working class.

Prosecutors filed another murder charge Tuesday against the man accused of being the Gilgo Beach serial killer, bringing the number of alleged victims to seven, all women slain near New York City. A hair linked to the wife or daughter of suspect Rex Heuermann was found near the left wrist of 24-year-old victim Valerie Mack, according to court documents. He’s now been formally accused of murdering Mack, who worked as an escort before her skeletal remains were found in November 2000. The charge connected to Mack comes after Heuermann was accused by Suffolk County prosecutors of murdering Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Sandra Costilla and Jessica Taylor. President-elect Donald Trump has threatened new tariffs on multiple countries as his second term approaches, after making tariffs a signature of his campaign. Now, Americans may have to actually brace for stagflation — something the nation’s economy hasn’t experienced in over half a century. Just over a month from now, Trump will have the power to levy tariffs on other nations at the flick of a pen. And once inaugurated on January 20, he has pledged to immediately impose a 25% tariff on Mexican and Canadian imports and increase tariffs on Chinese goods by an additional 10%. On the campaign trail, he also promised to levy a 10% to 20% tax on all imports and increase tariffs on Chinese goods by at least 60%.

Travelers with confirmed tickets to exit China within 10 days can enter the country in 60 places across 24 provinces, including the capital, Beijing, and China’s largest city, Shanghai. The expanded scheme also allows transit visitors to travel across regions during the 10 days, with some restrictions. Ju Huanzong / Xinhua News Agency via Getty ImaVisa waivers for transit passengers are popular among travelers, including Americans, who might otherwise be required to go through a tedious visa process for travel to China or elsewhere. Passport holders from 38 countries no longer need a visa at all, enabling them to stay in China for up to 30 days for business, tourism, family visits, exchange and transit purposes. The move was prompted by the Biden administration’s announcement that it had secured the release of three Americans who had been detained in China for years.

The numerous drone sightings by members of the public in East Coast states are not out of the ordinary and do not pose “a national security or public safety risk,” the FBI and three other federal agencies said in a joint statement Monday night. Obtained by NBC NewsThe statement also said reports of drone sightings over military facilities "are not new." Monday's statement echoes one in which the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said last week that they had "no evidence" at the time that the drone sightings in New Jersey posed a threat. Kathy Hochul and some members of Congress have demanded more information from federal officials amid conspiracy theories and rising public concern tied to the sightings. Officials from the FBI, the CIA and the national intelligence director’s office will provide the briefing at 2 p.m.

The New York judge who presided over Donald Trump’s hush money trial denied the president-elect’s bid to vacate his guilty verdict on presidential immunity grounds. "Defendant’s motion to dismiss the indictment and verdict is denied," Judge Juan Merchan wrote in a ruling Monday. Merchan handed down the decision after he also denied Trump's argument that he's already protected by presidential immunity because of his election win. Trump's attorneys had argued the indictment and the verdict should be thrown out in light of a Supreme Court ruling issued weeks later that created a new standard for presidential immunity. Merchan instructed attorneys on both sides to file their letters about the issue publicly and with redactions.

Justifying a rate cut in that environment will require some deft communication from Chair Jerome Powell and the committee. Other actions on tapMost Wall Street forecasters see Fed officials raising their expectations for inflation and reducing the expectations for rate cuts in 2025. Officials also are likely to raise their estimate for the "neutral" rate of interest that neither boosts nor restricts growth. That level had been around 2.5% for years — a 2% inflation rate plus 0.5% at the "natural" level of interest — but has crept up in recent months and could cross 3% at this week's update. The "ON RPP" rate acts as a floor for the funds rate and is currently at 4.55%, while the effective funds rate is 4.58%.

The average cash allocation level of participants in Bank of America's Global Fund Manager Survey fell to 14% underweight, according to data released by the bank on Tuesday. That stat of net 14% underweight on cash marks a significant turn from the 4% net overweight reading in November. This 18 percentage-point drop in cash allocation was the largest monthly decline in around half a decade, according to Bank of America data. What's more, the average cash level of surveyed managers fell to 3.9% from 4.3% of assets under management, hitting a new low going back to June 2021. That marked the second time in the last three months that this level fell below the key 4% mark, which Hartnett said triggers a contrarian sell signal.
