Gold bar bullions ingot, selective focus, crisis safe haven for investment or reserve for country economics. Gold prices were flat on Wednesday, as a firmer dollar partially offset safe-heaven demand amid heightened Middle East tensions, while investors awaited U.S. data for further economic cues. Spot gold held its ground at $2,659.79 per ounce, as of 0325 GMT, after rising more than 1% in the previous session. "Gold benefited from safe-haven demand during a risk-off session on Tuesday. Jim Cramer examines Wednesday's brutal tech sell-off

CNBC's Jim Cramer looked at what might have spurred Wednesday's Big Tech sell-offs, reviewing why investors may have been disappointed with earnings from Alphabet and Tesla . Cramer was impressed with the strength in the company's search business, as well as its Google Cloud revenue, which topped estimates at $10.35 billion. But Cramer said CEO Elon Musk "told a great story of self-driving technology, sorely needed energy production, not to mention humanoid robots." Cramer suggested both Alphabet and Tesla might not have declined if the market wasn't in the midst of a broader rotation out of tech. Cramer also examined stocks that have been seeing gains on the S&P 600 — the S&P's small cap index — as investors sell the mega caps.

"It is hard to understand how the ECB ended up buying the bonds of property companies, while at the same time warning of the risks of property price inflation," former ECB chief economist Otmar Issing told Reuters. But data this week shows the central bank still owned the two bonds issued by SBB as of Nov. 24. While Sweden is not in the euro zone, SBB issued the debt bought by the ECB in neighbouring Finland, which is. Alongside the SBB bonds, the ECB also hoovered up the debt of other property companies which have since hit problems, including Sweden's Heimstaden. The ECB also gobbled up many German real estate bonds, including 39 issued by Vonovia, which has been selling property to cut debt.

The result compares with a net loss of 40.3 billion euros in the same period last year, when ballooning costs to replace Russian gas threw the company into its biggest crisis ever, triggering a government rescue. The results come a week after Uniper detailed its outlook for 2023, expecting adjusted operating profit (EBIT) of 6 billion to 7 billion euros and full-year adjusted net profit of 4 billion to 5 billion euros. At the end of September, liabilities tied to derivatives, which grow or shrink in line with gas price developments, stood at 26 billion euros, down from 216 billion a year earlier.

Oct 31 (Reuters) - Global Payments (GPN.N) raised its annual profit forecast and beat Wall Street estimates for third-quarter profit on Tuesday, as strong consumer spending drove growth in its merchant-focused business. During Greece's peak power demand this year, also on July 24, solar photovoltaics covered 3.5GW of the total 10.35GW demand, grid operator IPTO said. Even in cooler and less sunny western countries such as Belgium, solar energy has covered more than 100% of the extra energy needed during midday spikes in power demand. Analysts say a second factor has helped to keep Europe's energy systems running this summer: overall, power demand has been relatively low. That has been the case since Europe's energy crisis last year, when Russia cut gas deliveries to Europe. "The only reason why this has been bearable is the low power demand environment that we're currently in," Refinitiv's Gerl said.

LAUNCESTON, Australia, May 22 (Reuters) - The spot price of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Asia is in the sweet spot of being low enough to boost buying interest, but not so low that it sparks a surge in demand. The decline in spot LNG prices has seen demand in key Asian importers hold steady, according to data compiled by commodity analysts Kpler. The seasonal softness can be seen in Japan's May imports dropping to an expected 4.24 million tonnes from 5.0 million in April and 5.55 million in March. However, it's likely that the decline in spot prices will only boost demand from June onwards, and there are some early signs that this is already happening. The lower spot price in Asia is also working to boost buying interest in Europe, with May imports expected at 12.28 million tonnes, up a smidgeon from April's 12.27 million.

The city's fire department said flames were put out early on Friday and no one was injured or trapped as per an initial investigation. CPC spokesperson Ray Chang said there was "very limited impact" on the company's output, as it has several other such units in its facilities across the island. The unit, which has a capacity of 40,000 barrels per day according to Refinitiv Eikon, is used to remove sulphur from oil products. The incident happened during routine maintenance at the plant, the city government said.
Oct 25 (Reuters) - Post-it maker 3M Co (MMM.N) said on Tuesday it expected weak consumer spending to continue into the upcoming holiday season and cut its full-year forecasts, echoing broader concerns of an uncertain economic environment. "Consumer spending continues to be weak," 3M Chief Financial Officer Monish Patolawala said on a post-earnings call with analysts. That cut in spending has also impacted 3M, which makes equipment such as electronic accessories and power cable connectors. The diversified manufacturer, which gets 60 percent of its revenue from outside the United States, cut its full-year revenue and profit forecasts earlier on Tuesday, while also citing ongoing macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainty. 3M reported third-quarter revenue of $8.62 billion, missing the average analyst estimate of $8.70 billion, according to Refinitiv data.
