Giving @_ajawilson22 her flowers for breaking the single season scoring record for most points in a @WNBA season…..when the love comes from love and loved ones it’s fulfilling enough! “The crown is heavy, but she shows up every day and pours into those around her,” said Las Vegas forward Alysha Clark. Much of it ends up at a plant operated by the Warsan Waste Management Company. “Around 45% percent of Dubai’s total waste comes to this facility,” says Tim Clarke, the company’s CEO. Operational since March of this year, the Warsan plant will use 2 million metric tons of trash annually to produce electricity, enough to power approximately 135,000 homes, according to the company. However, since the plant produces power, replacing the burning of fossil fuels, Warsan Waste Management believes the overall result is positive. But some environmental groups, such as Zero Waste Europe, argue that burning waste to generate electricity discourages efforts to cut waste and initiatives to increase recycling.

Two years later, a plurality of Americans held the view that so-called outside agitators — in this instance, Communists — were behind the civil rights movement. If we think of attention as a prevailing measure of success, then the Columbia protests, inspiring so many others and consuming global headlines, have been triumphant. “I see very little talk this week about what is happening to Palestinians in Gaza,” Peter Staley, the celebrated AIDS activist, told me. He recalled a major ACT UP demonstration in December 1989 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral that is still debated among participants. The idea was to disrupt a Mass offered by Cardinal John O’Connor to condemn the church’s stance on condoms.

REUTERS/Toby Melville/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 3 (Reuters) - Barclays (BARC.L) was sued this week by investors in its U.S.-listed securities who said the British bank misled them about former Chief Executive Jes Staley's ties to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Staley was Barclays' chief executive from 2015 and 2021. The investors said Barclays concealed or made misleading statements about Staley's and Epstein's relationship in public statements, regulatory disclosures about risks it faced, and communications with Britain's Financial Conduct Authority. A Nov. 9 hearing is scheduled in Manhattan federal court to consider final approval of the victims' settlement. The case is Merritt v Barclays Plc et al, U.S. District Court, Central District of California, No.

But in email messages, Staley described Epstein as one of his “deepest” and “most cherished” friends, according to the regulator. The FCA’s decision is provisional and Staley, who has previously said he “deeply regrets” his relationship with Epstein, can appeal at an ensuing tribunal. Barclays said that following the FCA’s decision, Staley was ineligible for, or would forfeit, bonuses and share awards totaling 17.8 million pounds (21.9 million). Staley has said that he had no contact with Epstein once he joined Barclays in December 2015. JP Morgan also reached a confidential settlement with Staley, who it had sued for allegedly concealing his personal activities with Epstein from the bank.

JPMorgan did not admit any wrongdoing in the settlement, which will give $55 million to Virgin Islands charities and the American territory's anti-trafficking efforts. The remaining $20 million will cover attorneys' fees incurred by the Virgin Islands as part of the litigation in federal court in New York. The Virgin Islands said the deal "includes several substantial commitments by JPMorgan Chase to identify, report, and cut off support for potential human trafficking, including establishing and implementing comprehensive policies and procedures." Virgin Islands Attorney General Ariel Smith said the agreement settles what was the first enforcement action against a bank for facilitating and profiting from human trafficking. The Virgin Islands previously obtained a $105 million settlement from Epstein's estate, and another $62.5 million from billionaire investor Leon Black to resolve potential claims related to Epstein.

At least one longtime sexual abuse victim of Jeffrey Epstein who received a monetary settlement from his estate can also pursue separate claims against two powerful former Wall Street executives who had ties to the convicted sex offender, according to two people briefed on the matter. The exceptions made for Mr. Black and Mr. Staley show how the two men continue to be dogged by their social and business dealings with Mr. Epstein four years after he killed himself in a federal jail while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The arrangement could set a precedent for other victims of Mr. Epstein, potentially exposing Mr. Black and Mr. Staley to further scrutiny and liability. “She was a victim, potentially, to these individuals,” Mr. Kahn said in the deposition, according to one of the people. Mr. Kahn said that Mr. Epstein’s estate agreed to the carve-out provision so that the unnamed woman could potentially sue for “harms that she incurred.”

Lawyers for Dimon, the bank's chief executive, and Staley, a former private banking and investment banking chief, urged a dismissal in filings late Thursday in Manhattan federal court. Lawyers for Dimon and the directors said there was no showing that either knowingly ignored red flags about Epstein, or that Dimon was involved in keeping Epstein as a client. The so-called derivative lawsuit seeks to have the defendants or their insurers pay damages to JPMorgan, benefiting shareholders. It is also defending against a lawsuit by the U.S. Virgin Islands, where Epstein owned two neighboring private islands. Staley has expressed regret for his friendship with Epstein and denied knowing about his sex trafficking.

That, of course, is the billion-dollar question: What did JPMorgan, America's largest bank, know about Epstein's alleged sex trafficking? Today, banks have entire departments dedicated to tracking client activity and flagging suspicious behavior. Lots of questions'The fuss JPMorgan compliance officers raised about Epstein in 2011 was extensive. Lots of questions," declared a senior JPMorgan compliance officer reviewing Epstein's accounts as part of that 2011 compliance review, according to court papers filed by the US Virgin Islands. Staley sent Epstein internal JPMorgan documents and relied on him for guidance on an array of business and personal dealings, the JPMorgan internal report shows.

Several months later, in October 2006, JPMorgan categorized Epstein as a "high-risk" client, according to a transcript of Dimon's deposition in May. Today, banks have entire departments dedicated to tracking client activity and flagging suspicious behavior. Lots of questions'The fuss JPMorgan compliance officers raised about Epstein in 2011 was extensive. A 'faithless servant'One person who might know much more about the tangled relationship between Epstein and JPMorgan is Jes Staley. Staley sent Epstein internal JPMorgan documents and relied on him for guidance on an array of business and personal dealings, the JPMorgan internal report shows.

Jeffrey Epstein offered to help former JPMorgan executive Jes Staley's daughter nab an acceptance to one of Columbia University's doctorate programs, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. Epstein offered to connect Staley with Columbia University's president at the Davos World Economic Forum in 2011, the report said, according to The Journal. Lawyers for Staley have denied the allegations against him to the Wall Street Journal.

A number of times, Mr. Staley told Mr. Epstein he missed him, talked about mutual friends and about helping his daughter get into graduate school. In one email, Mr. Staley bragged to Mr. Epstein about his New Year’s Eve 2011 plans: “I’m here in Brazil with three beautiful women. Have a happy new year.”In another email exchange, according to the document, Mr. Staley wrote to Mr. Epstein in 2010: “Maybe they’re tracking u?? Dimon made the remarks in a deposition for lawsuits against the bank related to its alleged role in Epstein’s sex trafficking crimes. Dimon testified that he had never personally met or spoken over the phone with Epstein. Dimon testified that the bank’s general counsel would have had the final say to cut ties with a client like Epstein. According to Dimon, Staley and Erdoes could not have overridden the general counsel. “What has become clear is that Epstein could not have run his sex trafficking operation without the valuable assistance of JPMorgan, Chase.

Staley was Mr. Epstein’s advocate in the bank and was the senior relationship manager for Mr. Epstein,” Ms. Erdoes said. The lawsuits contend that JPMorgan chose to keep Mr. Epstein as a client after he became a registered sex offender because he was bringing business to the bank. A blame game is also going on at JPMorgan, with some suggesting that Mr. Staley should have known about Mr. Epstein’s sex trafficking at the time, and that he had the duty to let others know. The bank has named Mr. Staley as a third-party defendant in the lawsuits in a bid to hold him liable for any damages JPMorgan may have to pay. Mr. Staley, who is scheduled to be deposed as soon as next week, has argued in court papers that he did nothing wrong or inappropriate.

REUTERS/Caitlin Ochs/Companies JPMorgan Chase & Co FollowNEW YORK, May 26 (Reuters) - JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N) Chief Executive Jamie Dimon said in a deposition on Friday that he had never met or communicated with late sex offender and former bank client Jeffrey Epstein, the bank said. Epstein was a JPMorgan client from 2000 to 2013, remaining so after pleading guilty in 2008 to a Florida state prostitution charge. It has accused Staley, who was friendly with Epstein, of concealing what he knew about Epstein’s crimes. Epstein died in 2019 in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
New York CNN —A federal judge ruled Friday that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office must turn over documents related to former JPMorgan Chase (JPM) executive James “Jes” Staley in response to a subpoena from the bank in ongoing federal lawsuits that allege JPMorgan enabled and benefited from longtime banking-client Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking crimes. Staley has denied all wrongdoing alleged in the lawsuits. It is unclear if there is an active investigation into Staley. Judge Jed Rakoff overruled Bragg’s assertion of privilege over certain documents requested in the bank’s subpoena determining that after a full review he found that the privileges and statutes invoked by the Manhattan prosecutor do not apply to the requested documents. The documents will be sealed under a protective order, the ruling said.
By attributing that knowledge to JPMorgan, Epstein's accusers might show that JPMorgan "actually knew" about the venture or "recklessly disregarded" its existence, Rakoff said. JPMorgan is separately suing Staley to cover its losses in the two lawsuits it faces, and forfeit eight years of pay. 22-10018; Jane Doe 1 v JPMorgan Chase & Co, No. 22-10019; Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands v JPMorgan Chase Bank NA, No. 22-10904; and JPMorgan Chase Bank NA v Staley, in Nos.
"Jane Doe herself has directly accused him of horrific sexual misconduct and, if true, he must be held accountable." In a separate letter, lawyers for the Epstein accusers also supported severing the Staley case, but for a different reason. 22-10018; Jane Doe 1 v JPMorgan Chase & Co, No. 22-10019; Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands v JPMorgan Chase Bank NA, No. 22-10904; and JPMorgan Chase Bank NA v Staley, in Nos.
When Louisiana State University women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey strode from the court after yet another win last month, she peeled off her pink butterfly-bedazzled blazer. The move was more rock star than 60-year-old college coach, but it was in keeping with Ms. Mulkey’s razzle-dazzle. Ms. Mulkey, along with the University of South Carolina’s Dawn Staley, is leading the charge for a new wave of women’s college basketball coaches using fashion as a crucial part of their public image. Friday night, in the hotly anticipated Women’s Final Four, millions worldwide will be tuning in to watch the formidable face-offs of South Carolina vs. Iowa, and LSU vs. Virginia Tech. Many of them will also be paying close attention to what Ms. Staley and Ms. Mulkey, superstar, title-winning coaches who earn seven-figure salaries, are wearing.
Lawyers for the bank said during a hearing on Thursday they would depose Staley, who also served as Barclays Plc's (BARC.L) chief executive, on March 23 and 24. JPMorgan has accused Staley, its former head of private banking, of "intentional and outrageous conduct" in concealing information about Epstein, with whom he had been friends. The lawsuit seeks to force Staley to return eight years of compensation and reimburse JPMorgan for damages the company might incur in the other lawsuits. Last week, Rakoff had ordered the bank to hand over more documents concerning its CEO Jamie Dimon. A separate trial involving an Epstein victim suing Deutsche Bank AG (DBKGn.DE) may also be rescheduled.

Suing former employees – in this case using an archaic-sounding doctrine that brands Staley a “faithless servant” – isn't a great look, but the bank led by Jamie Dimon has more reasons than most to defend itself. His $400 billion firm is being pursued for unspecified damages by a woman who argues that it knew of Epstein’s sex trafficking venture, and is also being sued by the government of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The bank has delivered a more than 400% total return to shareholders since Dimon took over in 2006, while talking up its “fortress” balance sheet. If JPMorgan loses either of the lawsuits in which it is a defendant, it wants Staley to share in the damages. Current or future employees might worry they too could find themselves branded a faithless servant for failing to disclose moral missteps, or having clients who fall from grace.
