Ford Motor Company has agreed to pay $165 million, the second-largest auto penalty ever issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to settle charges it failed to comply with federal recall requirements. “The total civil penalty amount of $165 million is second only to the Takata airbag consent order in the agency’s 54-year history,” the NHTSA said in a statement. The Ford penalty stems from a multi-year investigation into the automaker's handling of defective rollover safety cameras on a number of its models, including its popular F-150 trucks and Explorer SUVs. In a statement, Ford said it disagreed with NHTSA's findings but that it was pleased to administratively settle the dispute with the regulator. Power's "initial quality" report earlier this year as a sign the company is making progress on addressing those issues.

Tesla is offering the Cybertruck for lease a year after the EV company made its first deliveries to customers. However, leasing an EV offers buyers another way to take advantage of the tax credit program without meeting every requirement. Through what's known as a "leasing loophole," dealerships can receive the tax credit and choose to pass those savings on to the buyer or lessee. The power needs of data centers will temporarily prolong the demand for coal, maintaining the reliability of the electric grid but delaying the nation's decarbonization goals, according to Moody's Ratings. The electricity demand from data centers could more than double to 35 gigawatts by 2030 compared to 17 gigawatts in 2022, according to a Moody's report published Monday. "It can be cost effective for them to supply coal to those power plants, and those power plants can, in turn, meet the incremental demand coming in from the new data centers," Sama said. The benefit to U.S. coal producers, however, will be temporary as data center developers transition to cleaner sources of power, according to Moody's. But sustained coal demand in the U.S. due to data centers could briefly lift prices before coal resumes its decline after a few years, according to Moody's.

Power companies are dealing with damaged and blocked roads as they work to restore power to homes and businesses. The president approved disaster relief and has been in contact with the governors where the damage was most severe.

Power released its annual 2024 North America Airport Satisfaction Study, ranking the mega airports across North America. Mega airports are defined as those with 33 million or more passengers per year. The study was fielded from August 2023 through July 2024 and airports were measured based on a 1,000-point scale of overall customer satisfaction. Managing Director of Travel, Hospitality, Retail and Customer Service, tells CNBC Make It this year's study found that airports are swamped with travelers and that most airports have regained their passenger volumes from before the covid-19 pandemic. "There seems to be no slack in demand and airports are, in general, doing a little bit of a better job of making people satisfied, mostly with food and beverage," he says.
