Election betting platforms brought in billions of dollars as users around the world wagered on who would win Tuesday’s U.S. presidential election, according to an NBC News analysis of betting platforms. Michigan and Georgia followed close behind, and the rest of the swing states were all in the top 15 states with the highest trading volume. On both Polymarket and Kalshi, bets on swing states alone made up around half of the total trading volume on state outcomes. One Polymarket bettor, who identified himself as “Théo” in an interview with The Washington Post, had bet over $28 million on Trump winning the presidential election using multiple betting accounts. “Théo” had put money down on all the swing states, according to Polymarket’s analytics.

The only thing that matters is getting to 270 electoral votes through the Electoral College. Meanwhile, 219 electoral votes seem to be leaning in the former president’s direction. Closing off the ‘blue wall’Looking at those battleground states, Harris has the easier path than Trump to getting to 270 electoral votes. She could win by corralling Michigan (15 electoral votes), Pennsylvania (19 electoral votes) and Wisconsin (10 electoral votes). But the bottom line is this election is most likely going to come down to five states … or maybe six.

As Elon Musk continues to aggressively share conspiracy theories and misinformation about elections on X, election officials are fighting back. In three instances in the last month, Musk's posts highlighting election misinformation have been viewed over 200 times more than fact-checking posts correcting those claims that have been published on X by government officials or accounts. False claims he has posted this month routinely receive tens of millions of views, by X’s metrics, while rebuttals from election officials usually receive only tens or hundreds of thousands. “He is at least implicitly telling people: don’t trust the people that are running elections, trust me, trust x.com, trust Donald Trump. “You’re constantly building up a kind of armor against rationality, against fact-finding, and against the idea that election officials and responsible media can even be credible,” he said.

Hard seltzers, spiked seltzers, and their ilk have been marketed as lighter than traditional alcoholic beverages. In the 2010s, the hard seltzers started to pop up, with names like White Claw and Truly, both of which launched in 2016. Advertisement"During the pandemic, hard seltzers really blew up, and I think hard seltzers are one of those ones that were perceived as a little bit of a better-for-you option," said Kaleigh Theriault, an associate director of beverage-alcohol thought leadership at NIQ, a market research firm. The market got saturated, and people started to realize there could be a lot more to canned alcohol than beer and hard seltzers. "So companies are having to innovate more and more, and that has led to some higher-ABV canned cocktails."

Trump won the presidency in 2016 by stunning Democrat Hillary Clinton to win all three states by a combined margin of about 80,000 votes. But, as in other states, Democrats have been concerned about the risk of depressed turnout and some gains for Trump among Black voters in Philadelphia. Eight years later, the two states split again, when Roosevelt comfortably won Pennsylvania and Michigan narrowly went to Republican Wendell Willkie. This trio of states has arguably become the most consistent tipping point in American politics. In the nine elections since 1920 when they split their vote, the candidate who carried two of these three states won seven times.
