CNN —Ukraine has fired US-made ATACMS missiles into Russia’s Bryansk region, Russia’s Defense Ministry said, in a major escalation on the 1,000th day of war. The attack comes just two days after the Biden administration gave Kyiv the green light to use the longer-range American weapons against targets inside Russia. The attack marks the first time Ukraine has used the longer-range American weapons to strike targets deep inside Russia, and show that Kyiv has wasted little time in making use of its newly-granted powers. ET) Tuesday, Ukraine fired six ballistic missiles at a facility in Bryansk, the ministry said. On Sunday, US President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use longer-range American missiles inside Russia, ending a months-long prohibition aiming to help Ukraine defend itself while not drastically escalating the conflict.

KYIV, Ukraine — The Ukrainian capital was blanketed by darkness Monday, even as residents were bolstered by a sense that their American allies had — finally — seen the light. "It is excellent news for us and a significant move," Kyiv resident Maryna Vlasenko, 39, told NBC News. She also bemoaned the lengthy process and the continued limits on Ukraine's use of the long-range weapons, however. A charred vehicle sits outside a residential building in Sumy, Ukraine, after a Russian missile strike Sunday. “Ukrainians don’t have the luxury of waiting while Russia continues killing civilians in Mykolaiv, Sumy, and pushing on the eastern front,” he added.

Known as the “dancing mouse” due to its slippery movements in that final, fatal fight with the Imperial Japanese Navy, the destroyer USS Edsall went down off the coast of Australia in 1942, under the command of Lt. Joshua Nix. Speaking alongside Kennedy, Australia’s chief of navy, Vice Adm. Mark Hammond, said the wreck was found with the help of advanced hydrographic survey capabilities aboard naval support ship MV Stoker. “Nix’s position was hopeless from the moment Edsall was sighted,” Cox wrote. At least one hit Edsall, and the ship began to lose its ability to maneuver. The discovery highlighted the current AUKUS partnership, between the US, Australia and the United Kingdom, she said.

More than 9,000 women received Army Combat Action Badges for “actively engaging or being engaged by the enemy,” according to a 2015 report by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service. Two were given a Silver Star, the third-highest military combat decoration, for “gallantry in action,” the report said. LIMA, Peru — Chinese President Xi Jinping launched a weeklong diplomatic blitz of South America on Thursday by inaugurating a massive deep-water port in Peru, a $1.3 billion investment by Beijing as it seeks to expand trade and influence on the continent. Cranes at the Chancay megaport are seen behind a neighborhood in Chancay, Peru, last month. The rail project is estimated to cost $3.5 billion, according to Mario de las Casas, corporate affairs manager at Cosco Shipping Chancay Peru. Robert Evan Ellis, Latin America research professor at the U.S. Army War College, said that Chancay will make shipping between Latin America and China more efficient. Luzerne County is one of many counties in Pennsylvania — and across the country — that shifted to the right this year. Kevin Kraynak, a Luzerne County native, traveled from his home in California to try to get out the vote. Luzerne County became a hotbed of election denialism in 2020, and Pennsylvania is an open-carry state. Just over 152,000 total ballots were cast in Luzerne County — about the same as in 2020. Former U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning says censorship is still "a dominant threat," advocating for a more decentralized internet to help better protect individuals online. Her comments come amid ongoing tension linked to online safety rules, with some tech executives recently seeking to push back over content moderation concerns. "Censorship is a dominant threat. "I think that social media and the monopolies of social media have sort of gotten us used to the fact that certain things that drive engagement will be attractive," she added. "One of the ways that we can sort of countervail that is to go back to the more decentralized and distribute the internet of the early '90s, but make that available to more people."

Edsall was found 200 miles east of Christmas Island, south of Java, by the Royal Australian Navy. Edsall served valiantly during WWII, most notably in the early Pacific campaign. The Australian navy made the surprise discovery while conducting an unrelated and unspecified mission in the area. Its staff used "advanced robotic and autonomous systems normally used for hydrographic survey capabilities to locate the U.S.S. A famous photograph was taken on board a Japanese ship of the Edsall being blown out of the water, later to be used in Japanese propaganda.

Unlike with the hurricane rumor response page, FEMA did not appear to respond to the rumors on its page for the wildfires. By 2009, Alex Jones, perhaps one of the most widely known modern conspiracy theorists, was promoting the false FEMA camps conspiracy theory and deriding those who attempted to debunk it. The FEMA camps conspiracy theory continued throughout the height of the pandemic after President Joe Biden signed various executive orders regarding vaccinations and testing. Ron DeSantis said the plan was “not necessary” and referred to the vaccination sites as “FEMA camps.”Although the FEMA camp conspiracy theory has been shot down again and again, Aniano believes this won’t be the last of it. “The conspiracy theory, it’s going to come up again,” Aniano said.

The U.S. Army on Friday released a heavily redacted copy of a police report stemming from an August incident in which a staffer from former President Donald Trump’s campaign allegedly pushed an Arlington National Cemetery worker. A Trump campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday night on the Army documents. Arlington National Cemetery released a statement at the time pointing to a federal law barring political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, including the use of photographers. An Army spokesperson also said in August that the Trump campaign aide had “abruptly pushed aside” a cemetery employee who was trying to enforce restrictions on taking photos and video in that area. Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung previously denied elements of the incident, saying that there “was no physical altercation as described,” and that an unnamed person “decided to physically block” members of Trump’s team.

The US Army has been wargaming in the Indo-Pacific, preparing for what a future war might look like. "It is really hard to replicate that other than just training here in the region," Evans said. Evans explained that nighttime operations remain a top priority for the Army, and JPMRC allows soldiers the opportunity to develop that "perishable skill." WASHINGTON — The United States is “concerned” by reports of North Korean soldiers fighting for Russia in Ukraine, a White House spokesperson said Tuesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week accused North Korea of transferring personnel to Russia’s armed forces, saying his intelligence agencies had briefed him on “the actual involvement of North Korea in the war” in Ukraine. The Kremlin has dismissed the allegation as “fake news.”White House National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett said the involvement of North Korean troops in Ukraine, if true, would mark a significant increase in the North Korea-Russia defense relationship. Washington says North Korea has supplied Russia with ballistic missiles and ammunition. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a treaty with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un when he visited Pyongyang in June, and said it included a mutual assistance clause under which each side agreed to help the other repel external aggression.

The Ukraine war has demonstrated the challenges of remaining hidden from enemy sensors and electronic warfare. It is also grappling with the expanding sensor threat and the realization that individual soldier, vehicle, and device emissions can be detected in the electromagnetic spectrum.
