An Arctic blast gripped the northern Plains, Midwest and Great Lakes Saturday morning, with millions of Americans under freeze warnings. The National Weather Service warned that the Arctic airmass is delivering the coldest temperatures since last winter. The second-most expensive ZIP code is Fisher Island, Florida, south of Miami Beach. The study also examined the three most expensive ZIP codes in each state and district, finding that the median price of homes among them all was $1.28 million. To compile the rankings, RealtyHop looked at median listing prices for all types of homes in all ZIP codes in the U.S. between Jan. 1, 2024, and Oct. 15, 2024. Any listings with invalid ZIP codes or single-building ZIP codes were excluded from the study.

During the 1930s, the site was a dive bar and restaurant called Bonnie’s Stonewall Inn, which shuttered in 1954. Three years later, the Genovese crime family reopened the bar, retaining the Stonewall sign and name. Gay bars were mostly mob-run back then because of laws against homosexual behavior in public. No one was talking about landmarking Stonewall then, but the city’s designation of the Village helped forestall various proposals to raze the building. Then in 2000 Stonewall was named a National Historic Landmark, and in 2015, designated a New York City Landmark.

An Arizona produce company is recalling all sizes of its whole, fresh American cucumbers in 26 states and parts of Canada because they could be contaminated with salmonella, it said. Recalled cucumbers from SunFed were also sold in parts of Canada. "As soon as we learned of this issue, we immediately acted to protect consumers," SunFed President Craig Slate said in a statement. Cucumbers also were recalled earlier this year in South Florida, where at least 551 people were likely sickened by salmonella and 155 hospitalized. Many of the recalled cucumbers were linked to Bedner Growers Inc., and Thomas Produce Co., both of Palm Beach County, Florida, according to the FDA.

A judge on Wednesday found New York City in contempt for failing to staunch violence and brutality at its jails, a scathing ruling that puts the troubled Rikers Island jail complex on the verge of a federal takeover. It would not involve a takeover by the Justice Department, nor would the city’s jails become part of the federal Bureau of Prisons. Nineteen people died in custody at Rikers Island in 2022. There has been “no substantial reduction in the risk of harm currently facing those who live and work in the Rikers Island jails,” the judge wrote. Under a plan approved by the city council in 2019, New York City is legally required to shutter Rikers Island and replace it with four smaller and more modern jails by 2027.

Three American citizens who had been detained in China were released, a State Department spokesperson said Wednesday. Li, 70, who is from Long Island, New York, was detained in 2016 and sentenced to 10 years in 2018 on espionage charges his family says are baseless. The announcement on Wednesday follows the surprise release in September of American pastor David Lin, whom like Li and Swidan the U.S. had classified as wrongfully detained. He had been jailed in China since 2006 after being sentenced to life in prison on charges of contract fraud. The lawsuit said Shen Yun has made hundreds of millions of dollars by exploiting young dancers it recruits from abroad, forcing them to work grueling hours and scaring them into thinking they’d face harm if they quit. According to the website, Shen Yun, along with Fei Tian Academy of the Arts and Fei Tian College — which were also named as defendants — were founded by followers of the Falun Gong faith. After the first year, she was paid $500 a month until she “graduated” from Fei Tian College in 2019, when her salary was raised to $1,000 a month, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit said she contracted measles when she was 14 but was not permitted to see a doctor. Instead, the lawsuit said, she was told to meditate to feel better and was required to work while she recovered.

This week, bill pay service doxo released The Bill Pay Economy™ 2024. In the report, shared exclusively with CNBC Make It, doxoINSIGHTS found that Americans spend close to $3.35 trillion per year on the ten most common household bills. Using data sourced from bill pay activity on the doxo platform, and rent and mortgage numbers from the U.S. Census, they analyzed costs across the 50 largest cities in the country to rank the most — and least — expensive. "The biggest indicator of an expensive place to live is housing," Powell says. "People spend the most on where they live, whether that's mortgage or rent."

Vice President Kamala Harris, on the other hand, underperformed by about 6.8 million votes compared with Joe Biden in 2020, according to CNN election results as of November 25. The other came in 2012, when about 2.2 million fewer votes were cast than in 2008. Harris got fewer votes than Biden in 45 of the 50 states and Washington, DC. Amazon workers in more than 20 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, plan to hold protests or go on strike between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, two of the marquee shopping promotions of the year, according to organizers. ‘Make Amazon Pay Day’ is becoming a global act of resistance against Amazon’s abuse of power,” said Christy Hoffman, general secretary of UNI Global Union. A pilot known for transporting rescued dogs to shelter and care facilities died alongside a canine in a plane crash in New York state's Catskill Mountains on Sunday, authorities said. First responders found the downed plane, Kim's body, that of a deceased dog, and one animal survivor: a Labrador mix suffering from two broken legs, the sheriff's office said. The injured dog was taken by the Hyer Ground Rescue nonprofit to the a veterinary hospital, the sheriff's office said. The missing dog was found and taken by Hyer Ground and Partners for Animal Welfare to an animal care facility, it said. An autopsy will be conducted on Kim's body, the sheriff's office said.
