CNN —Senior-level personnel changes at the US Secret Service as well as the creation of new divisions are underway as the agency works to resolve security breakdowns that preceded the two attempts on former President Donald Trump’s life this summer. Typically, incoming presidents choose their own Secret Service director, and it’s hard to know whether Vice President Kamala Harris or Trump would retain Rowe. “I’m trying to get programs more closely aligned with the mission, getting them out to the field so that they are directly supporting enforcement operations, major criminal investigations and, of course, protective operations,” Rowe told CNN. Radio calls from local police who saw the shooter on the roof shortly before he opened fire never made it to the Secret Service. CNN has previously reported on the strain inside the Secret Service as the agency dramatically ramps up protection during the final stretch of the campaign season.

Trump was shot in the ear, one rallygoer was killed and two others were wounded before a Secret Service countersniper shot and killed the 20-year-old gunman. “We’ll continue to work with the department to look at those recommendations that are actionable and feasible to make changes in the Secret Service,” he said. He told NBC News that applications to join the Secret Service were up, with 400 people currently in various stages of training. Earlier this week, the two men who were wounded by the gunfire at the July rally told NBC News that the Secret Service failed them that day. A Secret Service agent spotted him and opened fire before Routh, 58, had Trump in his sights.

The local police team responsible for the roof a shooter used to fire at ex-President Donald Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, had never spoken to the Secret Service prior to the attempted assassination, a report released by the Secret Service on Friday says. Among other errors, the report found that one local police entity working security at the Trump rally requested support from another local department without the Secret Service being aware. While investigating the incident, the Secret Service placed some officials, including the director of the Secret Service’s Pittsburgh Field Office, on leave. “The former president is getting everything that the current president has with respect to Secret Service assets,” Rowe said. Rowe also told reporters at a news conference Friday that the Secret Service did not deny security assets to the Trump campaign ahead of the July rally in Butler.

CNN —Secret Service acting Director Ronald Rowe admitted a shocking breach of protocol before former President Donald Trump was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. The acting director also said that the Secret Service is continuing to evaluate its security posture around Trump following the apparent attempted assassination this weekend at a Florida golf course. So we are looking and we’re reevaluating.”Ready for January 6, 2025Rowe also said the Secret Service and other law enforcement have all of the resources they need to protect the 2024 election certification process on January 6, 2025. “A consistent theme gathered from state and local law enforcement personnel who helped secure the Butler rally was the presence of communications deficiencies,” the report said. A Secret Service agent spotted the man and fired at him before Trump was ever in the suspect’s line of sight, law enforcement has said.

Trump was whisked away to safety, unharmed, while the gunman, who officials believe remained near the tree-line perimeter of the golf course for 12 hours, fled the scene by car. Phone records from T-Mobile that indicated Routh’s phone was “in the vicinity of the golf course” for roughly 12 hours before he was first spotted by US Secret Service, according to charging documents. It’s still not clear why Routh went to the golf course that day. But Secret Service knew immediately it was bullets, and they grabbed me, and I think probably the other one, Steve is one of the people. One patrol deputy saw the suspect vehicle at about mile marker 110 and alerted others, following it but not trying to immediately stop the vehicle, Snyder said.

“The Secret Service needs more help,” Biden told reporters while leaving the White House on Monday. Chip Somodevilla/Getty ImagesActing US Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe met with Trump and local law enforcement on Monday in Florida. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned in the fallout from the assassination attempt, leading to Rowe’s appointment as acting director. Those concerns were underscored by details revealed Monday about the suspected shooter’s whereabouts before he was ultimately spotted by Secret Service agents. Moskowitz said Sunday that the Secret Service needed to consider taking more drastic measures, such as shutting down a significantly wider perimeter.

CNN —Multiple Secret Service personnel from the Pittsburgh Field Office and one member of Donald Trump’s security detail involved in the advance planning for Trump’s July 13 rally have been reassigned to administrative duties and ordered to work from home, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN. The Secret Service has been under immense pressure from lawmakers to discipline or fire those involved in the preparation for the rally. “This was a Secret Service failure,” Rowe told reporters during a news conference earlier this month – a clear shift in tone from when the agency previously pointed blame on locals for their failure to keep eyes on would-be Trump assassin Thomas Crooks that day. “That roof should have been covered.”“The U.S. Secret Service is committed to investigating the decisions and actions of personnel related to the event in Butler, Pennsylvania and the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. “The U.S. Secret Service holds our personnel to the highest professional standards, and any identified and substantiated violations of policy will be investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility for potential disciplinary action.

“We were never asked what we’d seen or where we were from Secret Service. “Before this incident, I would have thought Secret Service is, like bulletproof. The Beaver County officials were part of a multi-jurisdictional team assisting the Secret Service for Trump’s July 13 rally. The Secret Service has not responded to questions for comment from CNN. A federal law enforcement official familiar with the matter said the Secret Service was and has been in touch with the lead for the Butler Emergency Services Unit, which oversaw the Beaver County local law enforcement officers and others that day.

Washington CNN —Secret Service acting Director Ronald Rowe provided new details about the assassination attempt of Donald Trump on Tuesday, delivering forceful testimony at a Senate hearing about the agency’s failures earlier this month in Butler, Pennsylvania. But at the joint hearing of the Judiciary and Homeland Security committees, Rowe also highlighted the missteps of local law enforcement on July 13, when the former president was shot. Moving forward, Rowe told the committees, his agency will avoid assuming local law enforcement agencies are fully capable of fulfilling their role in protecting an event. Rowe told the lawmakers that local law enforcement was positioned in a nearby building and should have had a clear line of sight of Crooks on the roof. Tobra claimed that the account in question was “pro-Biden.”The Gab account has also not been conclusively connected to Crooks.

CNN —The US Secret Service is adjusting how it approves security plans and bolstering security measures for protectees in the wake of the assassination attempt against Donald Trump earlier this month, according to excerpts of congressional testimony Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe will deliver Tuesday. Rowe, who visited the site of the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, earlier this month, will tell senators from the Homeland Security and Judiciary committees: “What I saw made me ashamed. Rowe visited the scene of the assassination attempt as one of his first actions as acting director “to better understand how our protection failed,” he will testify. Rowe, who took charge of the Secret Service after Director Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation, is also set to give more details to lawmakers on the security failures that led to the assassination attempt at Trump’s July 13 rally. The Secret Service has also elevated security for protectees, according to Rowe’s excerpts, and are reinforcing details and conducting threat assessments to see what other adjustments are necessary.

CNN —President Joe Biden said Friday that his poor performance in last week’s debate was a bad night but not evidence of a serious condition. When asked on Friday whether he’s had cognitive tests and an exam by a neurologist, Biden said no. Biden gave no indication he would be willing to have such tests conducted in the aftermath of his debate performance. “So, again, pretty important for a job like president,” Ranganath added. “Part of those evaluations will look at the overall health of the individual, from neurologic health to also cognitive health,” she said.

I first heard about Beato after stumbling onto his YouTube channel. During the pandemic, for example, many music fans migrated to the internet to watch various forms of music because live music was off-limits. “I still feel at 60 the same way I did when I was 14,” he said recently in a YouTube video. His face lights up when he talks about his family on his YouTube channel. “My YouTube Channel was a way to honor my parents and leave something for my kids.

The tusk belonged to a woolly mammoth later named Élmayųujey’eh or, for short, Elma. Karen Spaleta, one of the new study's coauthors, takes a sample from a mammoth tusk found at Alaska's Swan Point archaeological site. Woolly mammoth tusks grew at a consistent daily rate, with the earliest days of the animal’s life recorded in the tip of the tusks. “The US Geological Survey has done a pretty darn good job mapping rocks in Alaska,” Rowe said. Changing the picture of hunter-gatherersThe new evidence advances more than an understanding of the early relationship between woolly mammoths and humans.

CNN —The James Webb Space Telescope has captured a new stunning image of ice giant Uranus, with almost all its faint dusty rings on display. Uranus has 13 known rings, with 11 of them visible in the new Webb image. A November Hubble image of Uranus (left) captured the planet's bright polar cap, while the recent Webb image displayed more detail, with a subtle enhanced brightness at the cap's center. With the exact mechanism behind the haze unknown, scientists are studying the polar cap using telescope images such as this new Webb image. In this new Webb image, similar to other recent images by the Hubble Space Telescope, storm clouds can be seen at the edge of the polar cap.
