CNN —With less than a month to go until the presidential election, “Saturday Night Live” pit Democrats against Republicans in a “Family Feud” sketch on its latest episode. Rudolph’s Harris and Samberg’s Emhoff were quick to get the top two answers on the board, answering “gun” and “second gun,” respectively. But “SNL” boss Lorne Michaels had been open about the show’s political plans prior to the start of the season, now three episodes deep. “You can’t lecture the audience, which most of politics is now, people lecturing the audience. Central Banks in Canada and the eurozone have both cut interest rates, but inflation rose in both of those regions last month. Australia, meanwhile, saw its inflation rate rise to 4% this week, stoking fears that the Reserve Bank of Australia could soon move to raise rates again. ☆ NBC to use AI version of announcer Al Michaels’ voice for Olympics recaps

CNN —NBC is bringing a version of famed sportscaster Al Michaels back to the Olympics this summer with an unlikely twist: His voice will be powered by artificial intelligence. NBC announced on Wednesday it will use AI software to recreate Michaels’ voice to deliver daily recaps of the Summer Games for subscribers of its Peacock streaming platform, a milestone for the use of AI by a major media company. The use of an AI voice for the Olympics comes as the technology has grown by leaps and bounds, particularly in its ability to create images, sound and text. NBC said the AI system was trained using prior NBC broadcast audio from Michaels. The highlights tool will be available on Peacock via web browsers and iOS and iPadOS apps starting July 27.

One of the strangest quotes I can remember associated with O.J. Simpson came from the broadcaster Al Michaels during the notorious freeway chase in 1994. Michaels, a sports commentator now covering the flight from the law of one of America’s biggest celebrities, said that he had spoken with his friend Simpson on the phone earlier.
