An OSHA spokesperson said in a response to NBC News that the agency did forward his safety allegations to the Coast Guard, which has the jurisdiction to investigate such claims. The Coast Guard also noted at the start of the hearing that the Titan never underwent an independent review, which is standard practice in the industry. “If the Coast Guard became a problem, then he would buy himself a congressman and make it go away,” McCoy said, adding that he resigned soon after. Rush “said the usual response that ‘it takes too long,’” Kohnen testified about getting OceanGate’s submersible classified by the industry. In a transcript of the conversation made public by the Coast Guard as part of the hearing, Rush denied he was going to put anyone at risk with the Titan.

“But artificial surfaces are acceptable for our own players,” Howell said. The NFLPA in April pointed to studies from 2012-22 that it says show a significant increase in non-contact injuries on artificial surfaces vs. grass fields. He said some artificial surfaces are softer, creating more wobble when the foot hits the ground. It's for the good of the players & the game itself.”A new artificial surface was installed this year at MetLife Stadium. The Titans cited NFL data that put Nissan Stadium among the league leaders for games with players having lower-body injuries.

CNN —The United States drew first blood in a month of international golf battles, fighting back to defeat Great Britain and Ireland at the 49th Walker Cup on Sunday. It’s certainly the pinnacle of my golfing life,” McCoy, who suffered a bruising 16.5 - 9.5 defeat in his sole Walker Cup playing appearance in 2015, told reporters. Robert Perry/APFirst blow landedIt’s a boost for American golf ahead as it seeks to avenge defeats in a Solheim Cup and Ryder Cup doubleheader later this month. At the height of the pandemic, leisure and hospitality workers suffered the most layoffs across all industries as venues shuttered during lockdowns. Many of these workers found jobs working remotely for call centers and have stuck with the jobs ever since, he added. But within that industry, the bulk of the worker shortage is coming from public school teachers. There were 118,000 fewer public school teachers across the country last month compared to February 2020, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Despite the shortage, public education jobs were much slower to raise wages than other industries, likely due to state and local budget constraints.

New York CNN —Senator Elizabeth Warren is cranking up the pressure on the Federal Reserve following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. Both Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank fit into that asset threshold when they failed earlier this month. The bipartisan 2018 rollback of Dodd-Frank freed large regional banks in that range of assets from the toughest oversight. Notably, the letter was signed by Senator Angus King, the Maine independent who voted in favor of the 2018 rollback. Days after the bank failures, the Federal Reserve launched a review of the regulation and oversight of Silicon Valley Bank.
CNN —ExxonMobil’s own scientists accurately predicted future global warming in reports dating back to the late 1970s and early 1980s, despite the company publicly continuing for years to cast doubt on climate science and lobby against climate action, according to a new analysis. They found the company’s science was not only good enough to predict long term temperature rise, but also accurately predicted when human-caused climate change would become discernible, according to the report published Thursday in the journal Science. Between 63% to 83% of the projections were accurate in predicting subsequent global warming and their projections were also consistent with independent academic models, the report found. Exxon won the case, which alleged the company had misled over climate change. Angela Weiss/AFP/Getty Images“We now have tight, unimpeachable evidence that ExxonMobil accurately predicted global warming years before it turned around and publicly attacked climate science,” Supran said.
