New York CNN —In Florida, a handful of dead mall anchor Sears stores, left vacant and unmoored by the iconic retailer’s bankruptcy six years ago, are being jolted back to life. SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Writer John Nichols, best known for his populist novel “The Milagro Beanfield War," has died. Nichols died Monday at home in Taos, New Mexico, amid declining health linked to a long-term heart condition, said daughter Tania Harris of Albuquerque. Nichols won early recognition with the 1965 publication of his offbeat love story “The Sterile Cuckoo,” later made into a movie starring Liza Minnelli. CNN —English golfer Charley Hull has criticized protestors who interrupted the final round of the Women’s Open on Sunday. In a video titled “Let’s Crash AIG Women’s Open,” Ekō called on users to tweet at AIG to protest the construction of the “disastrous” East African crude oil pipeline (EACOP). A spokesperson for Ekō told CNN on Monday that the group was not involved in the protest at the tournament. CNN —US golfer Ally Ewing endured a tough third round at the Women’s Open as the 30-year-old golfer finished two shots behind co-leaders Lilia Vu and Charley Hull at Walton Heath on Saturday. American Vu and Briton Hull share the lead on nine-under par, with Angel Yin and Kim Hyo-joo a shot behind, while Ewing is two shots adrift. However, six bogeys in Ewing’s third round allowed her rivals back into contention for the fifth and final major of the women’s season. Lilia Vu won the Chevron Championship to claim the first major of her career earlier this year. A superb round of 67, ensured the 24-year-old Yin ended the day on eight-under par.
