“It’s like Typhoid Mary being in charge of food safety.”But another group was celebrating Trump’s pick: the anti-vaccine movement Kennedy leads. She and Polly Tommey, director of CHD.TV and a longtime anti-vaccine activist, reflected on Kennedy’s power within their campaign. Holland urged viewers to “educate” the public and Congress that Kennedy’s anti-vaccine claims were accurate, aiming to boost his support among senators who would vote on his confirmation. Kennedy now has a chance to bring that advocacy into the top public health office in the country. Stone replied, “I am over the moon about the appointment.”Others relished how Kennedy might bring a dreamed-about reckoning in public health agencies and retribution against former public health officials.

It’s also here, on an unassuming downtown street, a small start-up called Energy Singularity is working on something extraordinary: nuclear fusion energy. Nuclear fusion, the process that powers the sun and other stars, is painstakingly finicky to replicate on Earth. The Chinese government is pouring money into the venture, putting an estimated $1 billion to $1.5 billion annually into fusion, according to Jean Paul Allain, who leads the US Energy Department’s Office of Fusion Energy Sciences. The US was among the world’s first to move on the futuristic gambit, working on fusion research in earnest since the early 1950s. He also said he had very low blood pressure and complained that his legs were cramping, according to the lawsuit. Nevertheless, paramedics cleared Moses to return to training, which the suit alleges was a decision made to support the police. “Safety and well-being is a top priority for Denver Health and its paramedics,” the hospital said in a statement. The recruit soon said he could not breathe, became unresponsive and was taken to the hospital, according to the lawsuit. “If this had been a football game or boxing match, the head injury and losses of consciousness would have ended any continued participation or fighting immediately,” Moses’ lawyers argue.

“2024 is the first American presidential election year at this intersection of election-related mis- and disinformation and the rapid growth of AI generated content. Misinformation spread rapidly through Pennsylvania during the 2020 election as the swing state faced baseless allegations about voting in Pennsylvania, perceived unfairness toward Republican poll-watchers and violations of election rules. Sabir said the misinformation fighting efforts will target voters where they are, including social media, billboards and radio ads. Fontes was recognized in May for his office’s work creating election security tabletop training exercises aimed to protect the state’s election infrastructure. WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Film director Agnieszka Holland demanded an apology from Poland's justice minister after he compared her latest film, which explores the migration crisis at the Poland-Belarus border, to Nazi propaganda. Holland said Wednesday that she planned to bring defamation charges against Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro unless she receives an apology within seven days. Holland’s feature film, “Green Border,” explores a migration crisis that has played out along Poland’s border with Belarus over the past two years. Holland said the comparison to Nazi propaganda was offensive because of what Poland suffered under Nazi occupation during World War II and given her own background. Holland's film dramatizes the migration tragedy that unfolded in the “green border” of swamps and forests between Belarus and Poland.

CNN —There is a crisis brewing in the olive oil industry. The situation is all the more concerning as it comes on the heels of a bad olive harvest last year, following Europe’s hottest summer on record. In Spain, the world’s biggest olive oil producer, production plunged to roughly 620,000 metric tons, compared to the five-year average of around 1.3 million metric tons, said Holland. This summer, heat gripped swaths of the Mediterranean region, bringing a “heat hell” scientists say would have been virtually impossible without climate change. “It’s getting to the stage where the concerns are significant not just for olive oil but for a lot of crops,” Holland said.

CNN —For people facing a greater threat of cognitive decline, getting hearing aids could cut your risk in half, according to a new study. Over the past decade, research has established that hearing loss is one of the biggest risk factors for developing dementia, but it wasn’t clear whether intervening with hearing aids would reduce the risk, he added. In the total group, hearing aids did not appear to reduce cognitive decline, the study said. Why hearing loss may increase dementia riskEveryone’s hearing declines with age, Lin said. In those cases, lower cost over-the-counter hearing aids — available without a prescription — may be a good option.

Not only was the TV series part of a genre — Boys’ Love, or BL for short — that was lesser-known in South Korea, it depicted something rarely seen on the country’s screens: same-sex romance. “Semantic Error,” which was based on a popular web novel of the same name, tells the story of two male college students who fall in love. And the risk paid off: “Semantic Error” became a hit upon its release in 2022. There are currently more than 20 BL shows being produced in South Korea. The on-screen adaptation of "Semantic Error" stars Park Seo-ham as Jang Jae-young and Jaechan as Chu Sang-woo.

The participants, who were all older than 71, were then screened for dementia using the Dementia Screening Interview, the study said. In people with distance visual impartment, that jumped to 19.5%; 21.5% for near visual impairment; and 32.9% for people who had moderate to severe visual impairment or were blind, according to the study. Another factor that might lead to the correlation is a possible decrease in opportunities and community participation that could come with vision loss, Silverman said. “When it comes to vision impairment and blindness, an estimated 80 plus percent is either preventable or even reversible,” he added. “If you notice that you have vision that is starting to be impaired, get it checked out.”But not every case of vision loss is treatable.

Track and Field Career: She was the world’s fastest woman. Bowie’s ascension to the fastest woman in the world began on a basketball court in Sandhill, Miss. Pisgah High School was too small to field separate basketball and track teams, so if Bowie wanted to play basketball, she would have to run track, too. She went on to help her track team win state titles, competing in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 4x100-meter relay and long jump. “It was one of the best conversations we’ve had in a long time,” Holland said over the phone on Monday.

CNN —Hearing aids might be an important tool in the effort to prevent cognitive decline and dementia, according to a new study. The new study published Monday in JAMA Neurology offers evidence that managing hearing loss may potentially help reduce or delay cognitive decline, Loh said. The use of hearing aids was associated with a 19% reduction in long-term cognitive decline, the study found. “Get screened for hearing loss, and if you do have hearing loss, speak with your audiologist or physician ENT to ensure appropriate and optimal correction to help stave off the potential dementia risk and cognitive decline,” Holland said. But in the meantime, people with hearing loss should talk with their doctor about whether it is appropriate to use hearing aids, Tan said.
