LOS ANGELES — Erik and Lyle Menendez’s bid for freedom hit another possible roadblock this week as California Gov. Gavin Newsom said that he will not review their clemency request until after the incoming Los Angeles County district attorney makes a resentencing recommendation. Nathan Hochman is set to take office Dec. 2 after his win earlier this month over District Attorney George Gascón, who has supported Menendez resentencing and urged clemency. “Before I can make any decision about the Menendez brothers’ case, I will need to become thoroughly familiar with the relevant facts, the evidence and the law,” Hochman said in a statement. “I think that you’re not going to see Hochman having a press conference about the Menendez case. Gavin Newson supporting the brothers in a bid for clemency, which could free the brothers immediately – possibly before Hochman’s term as district attorney begins. Gruber said Hochman could ask for the December 11 hearing to be moved to a later date and divert attention to his new term away from the Menendez case. Netflix also released a documentary on the Menendez case, featuring both men discussing what led to the killings.

In office, Gascón quickly got to work implementing his reformist agenda. San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin was recalled from office in 2022 after his critics assailed him as a soft-on-crime progressive. He then was the assistant attorney general for the U.S. Justice Department’s tax division under former President George W. Bush. New York CNN —People apparently can’t get enough of the Big Smasher burger, $6 margaritas and Triple Dipper combination platters at Chili’s. The meal deal is now 11% of Chili’s business, with sales soaring 70% over the last year. The Triple Dipper is “very relevant with younger guests and how they prefer to eat with more variety, customization and experiential flavors through our wide variety of dips,” Hochman said. The Triple Dipper is a staple on TikTok, with customers filming their combinations and raving about it. Meanwhile, McDonald’s was seeing its fortunes recover because of the $5 meal deal, but its momentum was stunted because of an E. coli outbreak.
