Prosecutors filed murder, kidnapping, robbery, and carjacking charges Monday against the man suspected of hijacking an LA Metro bus last week, murdering a passenger, and leading police on an hour-long chase through downtown Los Angeles. He was riding the Metro bus to commute home from his job at Dodger Stadium when it was commandeered. Several other passengers on the bus were described in court papers filed Monday as victims of various crimes that occurred during the hijacking. LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn, who also chairs the Metro transit system board of directors, said crime that occurs on the Metro system is often a reflection of what goes on in the communities it serves. “But when it happens on a Metro bus or a train, it obviously becomes national news,” Hahn said.

(AP) — Regulators on Thursday gave the go-ahead for a multistate wind-energy power line to provide the equivalent of four nuclear power plants' worth of energy to Missouri consumers. At issue is the Grain Belt Express, a power line that will carry wind energy from Kansas across Missouri and Illinois before hooking into a power grid in Indiana that serves eastern states. Under the new plan, approved 4-1 by Missouri's Public Service Commission, Grain Belt Express plans to bring as much as 2,500 megawatts of power to Missouri. Previously, state utility regulators approved a line that would have brought only 500 megawatts of energy to the state. The project will help unlock $7.5 billion in energy cost savings in Missouri and Illinois, according to its developers.

An Idaho man has contracted measles, and health officials are working to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the highly contagious disease. During his infectious period, the Idaho man spent time at the Boise airport on Sept. 13 and in the Nampa area on Sept. 14 and 15. Measles symptoms include fever, runny nose, cough and rash. Public health officials say people who have been exposed should call a health care provider and watch for symptoms for 21 days. It could take another week or so before health officials can determine if there are any other cases, she said.

The city did nothing with the property, and it was transferred to the state of California and then to Los Angeles County. The county built its lifeguard training headquarters on the land, which includes a small parking lot. And then it turned into a tragic story for my family,” Anthony Bruce, the great- great-grandson of the Bruces, previously told NBC News. And unfortunately, my family was the victim of a hate crime and the prejudice that was around during those times. Hahn learned about the property’s history and launched the complex process of returning the property, including determining that two great-grandsons of the Bruces are their legal heirs.
