CNN —An elderly man narrowly escaped with his life after a harrowing attack by a bear and her three cubs in his own home. “It’s certainly lucky we didn’t have a fatality,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife officer Lucas Martin said. Dating back to 1960, there have been 96 reported bear attacks on humans in the state. Experts urge different approaches during bear attacks: If a grizzly or brown bear charges, play dead, the National Park Service said. But if black bears – like the ones who entered the elderly man’s home – charge and attack, the park service warns to “fight with everything you have.”“Do not play dead.”

A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed a wrongful death lawsuit that claimed TikTok was responsible for the death of a 10-year-old who took part in the so-called Blackout Challenge. The challenge, which encourages participants to choke themselves until they pass out, had appeared on the child’s TikTok For You Page, according to court documents. The lawsuit was among several that have been filed related to the Blackout Challenge in the last year. In July, the families of two young girls also sued TikTok after their children, aged 8 and 9, died of self-strangulation while participating in the Blackout Challenge. A TikTok spokesperson told NBC News that the challenge had never trended on the platform and predates the app’s existence.

London CNN Business —Former Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke, Douglas Diamond and Philip Dybvig were awarded the Nobel Prize in economics on Monday for their work on banks and financial crises. Bernanke, who led the US central bank during the 2008 global financial crisis, received the award for his research on the Great Depression. While Bernanke served as chair, the central bank pioneered a program of quantitative easing, buying up assets to help stimulate economic growth. The Nobel prize, officially known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences, comes with an award of 10 million Swedish kronor ($885,370) to be split equally among the laureates. It was not instituted by Alfred Nobel, but established by Sweden’s central bank and awarded in memory of Nobel.
