It’s the so-called “corpse flower,” or Amorphophallus Titanum (often shortened to Titan Arum), named after the putrid stench it releases when it blooms to attract pollinators like beetles and flies. This plant was only gifted to Geelong Botanic Garden in 2021 from the State Herbarium in Adelaide, South Australia, and for years horticulturalists have been watching and waiting for signs of a nascent bud. Hong Kong’s humidity – already oppressive – was intensified in the dark, maze-like alleyways of an unruly enclave known as Kowloon Walled City. As such, the Walled City remained technically subject to Chinese rule, though this was never enforced. The site of the Walled City has since been transformed into a public park, which opened in 1995. Ongoing interest in the Walled City is, Girard suggests, because of the spirit it encapsulates: the aptitude for survival even in the harshest of circumstances.

CNN —“This boy’s too young to be singin’ the blues,” Elton John sings in one of his biggest hits “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”And on Saturday, the legendary singer found himself singing with the sky blue side of Manchester as he was serenaded by Manchester City shortly after the team had won the FA Cup. Pep Guardiola’s side had defeated its bitter rival Manchester United 2-1 at Wembley to keep its hopes of a ‘treble’ still standing, before players and staff bumped into John at Manchester Airport on the tarmac by a plane. “Look who I ran into at Manchester Airport,” John posted on Instagram, alongside a photo of himself holding the FA Cup with some of City’s staff, including a grinning Guardiola. “Congratulations on an incredible double. Fingers crossed for the treble.”Videos posted by Manchester City showed John hugging each of the players in turn as they walked past him, while Phil Foden even posed for a selfie with the singer, before the team serenaded John with a rendition of his famous “Your Song.”“You can tell everybody, we’ve won the FA Cup,” City quipped.

CNN —Manchester City took another step towards winning its first Champions League trophy after cruising to a 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich on Wednesday to secure a 4-1 aggregate win in the quarterfinals. “I’m so happy for three years in a row to be in the Champions League semifinals,” City manager Pep Guardiola told reporters after the second leg at the Allianz Arena. The Norwegian striker pounced on a mistake by defender Dayot Upamecano to smash home a finish into the top corner of the net in the 57th minute – his 12th Champions League goal of the season. “I am very satisfied with both games against Manchester City and with the way we presented ourselves today,” Tuchel told reporters after the match. The Italian side will face fierce city rival AC Milan for a place in the Champions League final where the winner will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in Istanbul on June 10.

CNN —Brentford defeated Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium, ending City’s run of 16 consecutive home victories with a breathtaking breakaway goal in the 98th minute that sealed victory. One moment, Phil Foden was taking a corner for Manchester City; a chance to set up a winning goal with the scores tied at 1-1 and the clock in added time. The next, Yoane Wissa had intercepted the ball and was haring down the wing to the opposite end of the pitch. Toney scores his team's first goal. Just ten minutes later, the Spaniard intervened in defense, somehow sweeping away another Brentford attempt on goal.
