Labor leaders say Democrats need to rethink their approach to working-class voters. Former Fox News host Pete Hegseth’s attorney confirmed he paid a woman after she accused him of sexual assault. He also denied that the encounter between Hegseth and an unnamed woman, which she alleges happened in 2017, was sexual assault. 🏈 The Kansas City Chiefs’ undefeated season is no more as the Buffalo Bills beat their AFC rivals 30-21 at home. Where Harris’ campaign went wrong

It was a moment that encapsulated one of the biggest challenges facing her campaign – which, in the end, proved insurmountable. CNN spoke with over a dozen senior Harris campaign aides both in the Wilmington, Delaware, campaign headquarters and on the ground in the states, as well as multiple volunteers and local elected officials, over the course of the final weeks of the race. Vice President Kamala Harris makes her way to board Air Force Two before departing Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin on September 20. Biden could have taken on a role as steward and elder statesman, rather than a guy the Harris campaign never knew quite what do with. And those tensions manifested from almost the start of this short campaign, in the internal wrangling over who Harris should pick as her running mate.

HOUSTON — A Black high school student in Texas who was punished for nearly all of his junior year over his hairstyle has left his school district rather than spend another year of in-school suspension, according to his attorney. It would allow him to return to school while a federal lawsuit he filed proceeds. George’s federal lawsuit also alleged that his punishment violates the CROWN Act, a recent state law prohibiting race-based discrimination of hair. In February, a state judge ruled in a lawsuit filed by the school district that its punishment does not violate the CROWN Act. Barbers Hill’s hair policy was also challenged in a May 2020 federal lawsuit filed by two other students.

And then Curry got the ball at the top of the key and – bang. Off a pass from Devin Booker with 1:19 left, Curry buried another three and the US was back up by three possessions. What came next though was just the Steph Curry-est shot that Steph Curry has ever made. But no defense is strong enough to contain Steph Curry when he’s feeling it. The noise that came from Curry was easier to understand.

CNN —Joe Biden landed a major union endorsement Wednesday from North America’s Building Trades Unions, whose leaders say the president has his infrastructure bill largely to thank for it. The backing from NABTU, which has 3 million members nationwide, is more enthusiastic than its 2020 backing of Biden. That’s raised questions about the political future of the next generation of union members. It’s “almost like the perfect leader was sent at the perfect time for working people,” NABTU President Sean McGarvey told CNN about Biden in an interview announcing the endorsement. Biden appeared at the union’s conference in Washington on Wednesday to officially get the nod – which union leaders also want to be seen as a stark rebuff of Trump, who eagerly solicited support from union members and leaders during his time in office, but, their leaders say, didn’t deliver.

Luka Doncic and Devin Booker went on another NBA scoring spree on Friday night, making this a week like none other in league history. “I mean, you have some amazing players, man," Doncic said Friday when asked about the recent run of great scoring performances. Chamberlain scored 100 on March 2, 1962; Bryant scored 81 on Jan. 18, 2006; Chamberlain had 78 on Dec. 8, 1961. And now, Doncic has joined their echelon, his 73 tying Thompson and Chamberlain (who did it twice) for fourth-most in an NBA game. Leaguewide, NBA teams are averaging about 116 points per game this season — the highest rate in the league since the 1969-70 season.

PHOENIX (AP) — The San Antonio Spurs were flailing in the fourth quarter Thursday night, struggling to find their footing after the Phoenix Suns erased a 27-point lead and threatened to finish an epic comeback victory. The 19-year-old rookie scored a season-high 38 points, Zach Collins added 19 and the Spurs held off Phoenix 132-121 on Thursday night. On Thursday, it looked as if San Antonio would win in a blowout. San Antonio pushed its advantage to 27 points midway through the second quarter, taking advantage of sloppy Phoenix play on both ends of the floor. The Spurs led 75-55 at the break after Wembanyama hit back-to-back 3s late in the second quarter.

“His enthusiasm for the game — you can tell that through the TV and playing against him,” Durant said. “So yeah, in the NBA it's the same.”Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Wembanyama's strength is that he's unselfish but can also take over a game when needed. And if Thursday night was any indication, Wembanyama is every bit the rising NBA star that many expected. “I don't see anyone else like him in this game,” Durant said. “We're both skinny and I know he watched me growing up, but he's his own player."

But “Senator Menendez has made these sacrifices in the past to serve. “I believe stepping down is best for those Senator Menendez has spent his life serving." In the days after the indictment, calls for his resignation began, starting with members of the New Jersey congressional delegation (sans Rep. Bob Menendez Jr., the senator's son) and expanding to include New Jersey Gov. Absent from the initial push for Menendez's departure was Senate Democratic leadership and Booker, who works with Menendez on a regular basis representing New Jersey. A dozen more U.S. senators added their calls for their New Jersey Democratic colleague to leave.

CNN —Investigators in Baltimore are searching for multiple suspects in a mass shooting that launched a beloved annual neighborhood block party into chaos early Sunday, killing two people and injuring 28 others, most of whom were teens, officials said. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said Sunday his office is mobilizing every available resource to assist with the investigation. Residents watch as Baltimore police investigate the site of a mass shooting in the Brooklyn Homes neighborhood on July 2, 2023. CNN —Nikola Jokić made history with a triple-double on Tuesday night to lead the Denver Nuggets to a comfortable 118-102 Game 5 win in their Western Conference playoff series against the Phoenix Suns. The Nuggets were spearheaded as usual by Jokić, who created yet more history with his excellent all-around performance. Brown provided a key thrust for Denver throughout, scoring 25 points off the bench, something Jokić was keen to praise. Devin Booker led the way for the Suns with 28 points while Durant added 26 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. The home team has now won every game in the series so far, with Game 6 taking place in Phoenix on Thursday.
The House unanimously passed a bill Wednesday to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to Emmett Till, the Chicago teenager murdered by white supremacists in the 1950s, and his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley. The bill, which passed the Senate in January, is meant to honor Till and his mother — who had insisted on an open casket funeral to demonstrate the brutality of his killing — with the highest civilian honor that Congress awards. The medal will be given to the National Museum of African American History where it will be displayed near the casket Till was buried in. The killing galvanized the civil rights movement after Till’s mother insisted on an open casket and Jet magazine published photos of his brutalized body. The designation comes months after President Joe Biden signed the first anti-lynching legislation, named after Till, into law.
CNN —Phoenix guard Devin Booker scored an astonishing 51 points in just three quarters as the Suns dominated the Chicago Bulls 132-113. In just 31 minutes on the court, the shooting guard shot 20-for-25 from the field and went 6-for-7 from deep, making it one of the most efficient scoring performances in NBA history. “It felt like a double-sized rim out there,” Booker said after the game. In the third, Booker took it to another gear, dropping 26 points to kill the game off – shooting 10-for-11 in the quarter. MVP!” after Booker sunk a three-pointer in the third quarter.
Elizabeth Holmes scheduled to be sentenced on Friday

CNN —Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of failed blood testing startup Theranos who was convicted of fraud earlier this year, is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday morning by a judge in court in San Jose, California. The list includes Holmes’ partner, Billy Evans, many members of Holmes’ and Evans’ families, early Theranos investor Tim Draper, and Sen. Cory Booker. Elizabeth Holmes (L), founder of Theranos, and her partner, Billy Evans (R), leave the Robert F. Peckham Federal Building and US Courthouse in San Jose, California, on October 17, 2022. “The effects of Holmes and Balwani’s fraudulent conduct were far-reaching and severe,” federal prosecutors wrote in a November court filing regarding Holmes’ sentencing. “Elizabeth Holmes is never going to run a big company again,” he said.
CNN —Steph Curry scored 50 points for the 11th time in his NBA career, but his efforts weren’t enough for the struggling Golden State Warriors against the Phoenix Suns as the defending champions went down 130-119. The Warriors are now 6-9 on the season and winless from eight games on the road – a troubling sign as the team looks to win a fifth title since 2015. “We’re never going to panic, there’s no point in panicking,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters after Wednesday’s game. ”It’s important to have a team,” Booker said about the even scoring distribution throughout the team. They next visit the Utah Jazz on Friday while the Warriors welcome the New York Knicks.
CNN —Star shooting guard Klay Thompson was ejected for the first time in his long NBA career in the Golden State Warriors’ tempestuous 134-105 defeat to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. In the third quarter of the chippy loss to the Suns, Thompson and Phoenix’s Devin Booker could be seen exchanging words with one another as tempers flared. According to Booker after the game, Thompson repeatedly gloated to Booker that he had four NBA championship rings as the two bumped chests and went back and forth at each other. The Suns have made it to the NBA Finals three times in franchise history, but have yet to win an NBA title. Booker told the media afterwards that he liked the trash talk, saying the two were “competitors.”“I love Klay Thompson.
