Allred, a three-term Dallas congressman, is out to unseat Cruz in the Republican stronghold of Texas. While Cruz has adopted the slogan “Keep Texas, Texas,” Allred is hoping to lure voters into a new way of leadership, he says, one that focuses on reaching across the aisle and getting to the bottom of hot-button issues like abortion, the border and the economy. The close Senate race is a nod to the high stakes of the presidential battle between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Texas may be Democrats’ best chance to maintain control of the Senate, with some polls showing Cruz lead within the margin of error. Cruz said Allred is nothing like the “charismatic” Beto O’Rourke he defeated in 2018 by less than 3 percentage points.

A Democratic super PAC is hitting the airwaves in Texas, looking to boost Rep. Colin Allred by focusing on abortion in his underdog but increasingly competitive race against GOP Sen. Ted Cruz. Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and Democratic Rep. Colin Allred traded quippy one-liners and clashed over policy Tuesday at their first and only debate in a Texas Senate race debate that both candidates agree is up for grabs. Cruz presented himself as a conservative who “will fight to keep Texas Texas,” while Allred cast Cruz as a do-nothing extremist who has not delivered for the state in his 12 years in the Senate. “When the lights went out in the energy capital of the world, he went to Cancún. If those two seats change hands to the Republican Party, Democrats will face long odds of keeping control of the chamber. Cruz went on offense over energy and blamed Democrats for inflation.

CNN —The legal team representing the alleged victims of the former owner of Harrods, Mohamed Al Fayed, say the late billionaire was a “monster” whose crimes were “enabled” by the high-end department store. Armstrong said Al-Fayad was a “monster” who committed a “vast web of abuse.”Setting out the legal claim being brought against Harrods, Armstrong said Al-Fayad was “enabled by a system” that pervaded the store. “This is and was a systematic failure of corporate responsibility, and that systematic failure is on the shoulders of Harrods,” Armstrong said. New York AP —A New York woman is challenging the longstanding rules of Miss America and Miss World that disqualify mothers from their beauty pageants. Joe Frederick/APSpokespersons for the Miss America and Miss World pageant organizations didn’t immediately respond to emails seeking comment Monday. A spokesperson for the human rights commission said the agency does not comment on open investigations. Allred noted that she previously had success challenging a similar rule for a California mother denied eligibility to compete in the Miss California pageant, which is part of the Miss Universe and Miss USA organizations. Didusenko, who has since created an organization advocating for an end to beauty pageant bans on mothers, said she lost her legal challenge in Ukraine but is seeking relief from the European Court of Human Rights.

“I don’t hear a lot about the border here in Dallas, and I’m in a border state. Today, border issues are an even greater concern for Texas voters. In his race to unseat Cruz, Allred is now spending at least $380,000 running an online ad exclusively dedicated to the border issue. To fix it, we have to go after the cartels and fix the border,” Allred says in the ad. Allred has also shifted his rhetoric on a border wall popularized by Trump.

Jackson is not the only House representative who has both taken advantage of the popular app and voted for the bill that could ban it. Some of these representatives actively use the app to boost their campaigns, while others use it for office communications. Some members who voted in favor of the bill believe the US should be able to regulate the technology. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate's border proposal was one of the toughest bipartisan bills to emerge on the issue in decades. Republicans have campaigned on border security for years, and public frustration is running high with the record number of illegal U.S. border crossings. Cruz’s likely Democratic opponent, Texas Rep. Collin Allred, said he’s already talking about the border deal on the campaign trail. Murphy agreed that Democrats should remain committed to broad immigration reforms, including pathways to citizenship for migrants who are already here. But he argued that may only be possible once Democrats first show voters they are serious about tough border enforcement.

CNN —Actor Alec Baldwin has been indicted by a New Mexico grand jury on charges connected to the 2021 fatal shooting on the set of the movie “Rust,” new court documents show. Baldwin is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed also faces involuntary manslaughter charges in the case. The film’s assistant director, David Halls, was identified as the person who handed the firearm to Baldwin that fateful day. Attorney Gloria Allred, who is representing Hutchins’ family in a civil lawsuit against Baldwin, responded to Friday’s development in a statement to CNN.

Baldwin named all four as cross-defendants in a lawsuit originally filed against him last year by Mamie Mitchell, the film’s script supervisor. Baldwin said he relied on all four to do their jobs, and that Hutchins died as a result of their negligence. As a result, Baldwin says he has experienced “immense grief” and suffered an “emotional, physical and financial toll.”“More than anyone else on that set, Baldwin has been wrongfully viewed as the perpetrator of this tragedy,” wrote Baldwin’s attorney, Luke Nikas. Further, Baldwin accuses Seth Kenney, the supplier, of showing a “cavalier disregard for proper separation between live and dummy ammunition.”All four have previously denied culpability. In a statement Thursday, Gloria Allred, who represents Mitchell, said Baldwin should take responsibility for his actions.
