Stephanie Jacquet, 49, is not an Olympic athlete, nor any kind of athlete at all. “This is the first time in my life I’ve ever run anything,” she said. The Marathon for All, as it was called, was the final grand flourish of an audacious Summer Games organized around the revolutionary idea that Paris itself could be a stadium, not apart from the sports but at their center. Half were men and half women; they came from 127 countries and went off in waves, the last leaving just before 1 a.m. And in a nod to the Olympic year, each race had a total of 20,024 entrants.

PARIS (AP) — Paris has rescinded a special honor it bestowed on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas because of his recent antisemitic comments minimizing the Holocaust. No cause can justify revisionism and negationism.”Hidalgo awarded Abbas the city’s highest honor, the Grand Bronze of Paris, in 2015 for his efforts toward peace in the Middle East and a two-state solution. In a speech last month to senior members of his Fatah movement, Abbas said that Adolf Hitler killed European Jews not because of antisemitism, but because of their “social functions” in society, such as money lending. In the Holocaust, 6 million Jews and others were murdered by the Nazis and their allies. Hitler considered Jews to be an inferior race and viciously promoted antisemitic stereotypes to incite violence and discrimination against Europe’s Jews as the Third Reich carried out the genocide.

The guest list for the first Monday in May, as the Met Gala is also known, serves as a Rorschach test for whom Anna Wintour deems important, circa now. Many guests wore black and white or suits and gowns embellished with pearls or flowers — favorite motifs of Mr. Lagerfeld. Doja Cat and Jared Leto each paid homage to Choupette, Mr. Lagerfeld’s feline friend. There were many wonderful dresses that paid respect to Mr. Lagerfeld’s legacy — in fact, there were too many to name. So here’s a reminder: The looks that follow did the most at the Met Gala — not necessarily the best, not necessarily the worst, just the most.
When Coco Gauff arrived in Paris in May for the French Open, she did not expect the tournament to be a milestone in her tennis career. Chris Evert predicted she would win a Grand Slam championship, even at 18; John McEnroe declared that she would be No. She loved Paris. In the semifinals, she unleashed the power of her serve — one of the fastest in women’s tennis — to close out the match. In the end, Gauff lost 6-1, 6-3 to Iga Swiatek, a Polish athlete, currently ranked No.
