This simple solution took root in McGriff’s mind and started her journey helping women and girls transform their lives. Tasked with creating a business or nonprofit for a class project, she remembered the notion of the school uniform and developed an idea. The ‘uniform that grows’That first year, the group hired local seamstresses and provided uniforms and school fees to 65 girls. “It’s all (done) with this tone of empowering girls and helping girls to understand their rights and their opportunities in society,” she said. Eventually, McGriff hopes SHE can become self-sustaining so her role can be further reduced, which has been her goal from the beginning.
