Tesla is a hot favorite when it comes to investing in the electric vehicle market.
Brian Arcese, portfolio manager at investment firm Foord Asset Management, said he has a "far less convicted view" in Tesla retaining its dominance than in his preferred investing route in the EV market.
He told CNBC Pro Talks last week that he's taken two "slightly untraditional" approaches to investing in that space.
He names one U.S. stock, Edison International , as one such U.S. regulated utility company to play the EV trend.
But he says that within that space, he's focused on companies that are the lowest-cost producers.
