NEW YORK (AP) — GOP front-runner Donald Trump marked President Joe Biden 's 81st birthday on Monday by releasing a letter from his physician that reports the former president is in “excellent” physical and mental health. Dr. Bruce A. Aronwald, a New Jersey physician who says he has been Trump’s doctor since 2021 and most recently examined him in September, reported that Trump's “physical exams were well within the normal range and his cognitive exams were exceptional." The report comes as age has emerged as a key issue of the 2024 election, which could find Trump and Biden, the country's oldest president, facing off once again. It takes the truth and moves it in a different direction.”While in the White House, Trump's doctors offered a more complete picture of his health following annual physicals that included numbers and test results. Trump continues to brag about the results to this day.

As speaker, McCarthy has the authority to choose a chairman and Republican members of the panel. Jeffries, as minority leader, can nominate Democrats to serve on the panel, but McCarthy has the power to reject them. He has specifically targeted Schiff and Swalwell who played a major role in the impeachments of former President Donald Trump. Those actions angered McCarthy and for months he has vowed to block Schiff and Swalwell from the Intelligence panel. As recently as Jan. 12, McCarthy told reporters he would not seat Schiff and Swalwell who regularly antagonize McCarthy during cable news appearances.

GOP Rep. Virginia Foxx received a waiver to run for chair of the House education committee. She has been highly critical of Biden's student-debt relief and plans to bolster oversight over the reforms. "If I am selected to Chair the Committee, I will make oversight a priority and put the federal government in its place. Since Biden took office, Foxx has been highly critical of the higher education policies and reforms he has enacted, specifically related to student debt. Biden's administration is continuing to fight for it's student-debt relief plan, with the matter now sitting at the Supreme Court.
