Moller-Maersk, the second-largest global ocean carrier, is advising customers to prepare for a Red Sea crisis that could stretch well into the second half of this year. "Unfortunately, we don't see any change in the Red Sea happening anytime soon," Charles van der Steene, regional president for Maersk North America, tells CNBC. After attacks on two U.S.-flagged Maersk vessels on January 24, the Maersk Detroit and Maersk Chesapeake, Maersk Line, Limited — a U.S. subsidiary of Maersk, which operates U.S.-flagged vessels independently — announced it would no longer traverse the Red Sea. The global shipping and logistics company's cautious view of the Red Sea safety conditions comes despite a U.S.-led multinational military operation in the region, Operation Prosperity Guardian. "Our advice to our customers is specifically about building upon the uncertainty by being agile," said van der Steene.

How do you deal with visits to “shoeless” homes? It’s often a surprise, so you can’t plan ahead with cute socks or by making sure you’ve recently had a pedicure. I’ve been confronted with this more often in the last few years, and I’m never comfortable removing my shoes. I know people who quail at the sight of other people’s feet, and we all know about people who fetishize feet. In many cultures, removing your shoes when you enter someone’s house is natural; it’s a sign of respect.

AI image generator Midjourney is pausing free trials due to "extraordinary demand and trial abuse," its founder said. Prior to the free trial shutdown, fake images created using Midjourney were going viral on Twitter and other social media platforms. The platform has been used to create fake images of Twitter CEO Elon Musk and President Vladimir Putin in the past. Professional photographers are becoming more vocal about their concerns as AI-generated images become increasingly harder to recognize as fake. "Additionally, it can lead to the creation of work that is not representative of the creative's own artwork, as AI-generated images can easily replicate styles and techniques."
Durham County Commissioner Nida Allam competed in this year's Democratic primary for North Carolina's 4th Congressional District.
