It was an incredible moment, and I felt like everybody had my back.”Now, in his latest series, Leguizamo is playing what he calls a “despicable, hateable character” — and he wants as many people as possible to see it. “The Network (platform) is free, all you have to do is subscribe,” Leguizamo said. “We’re doing a platform for diverse, quality stories, important stories.”“The Green Veil” is an eight-episode drama starring Leguizamo in his first lead role on a dramatic television series. Although Leguizamo describes “The Green Veil” as “historical fiction,” it draws on real-life events. Leguizamo was drawn to “The Green Veil” in part because it is a period piece, and Latinos are usually not included in such projects.

That cleared the way for counties to start preparing, printing and distributing mail ballots to those who request them. Most rejected ballots are tossed out for arriving after Election Day, but thousands have been rejected for missing signatures and similar paperwork errors. Pennsylvania's mail ballots have once again been the subject of a major election-year legal battle. The state Supreme Court ruled last week that mail ballots with improper dates can't be counted. Looking ahead to November, clerks in Pennsylvania still won’t be able to process any mail ballots before Election Day, meaning it could again take days to count them.

Vice President Kamala Harris called the rate cut “welcome news,” while former President Donald Trump suggested, without evidence, that the decision could be politically motivated. With less than 50 days until Election Day, another question has emerged: Will the rate cut matter to voters? In fact, they already have – mortgages are based on bond yields, which have fallen in recent weeks in anticipation of a rate cut. Harris responded to the rate cut by saying she’s focused on bringing down prices. This story has been updated with reaction to the Fed’s rate cut announcement.

JPMorgan Chase has created a new global role overseeing all junior bankers in an effort to better manage their workload after the death of a Bank of America associate in May forced Wall Street to examine how it treats its youngest employees. The firm named Ryland McClendon its global investment banking associate and analyst leader in a memo sent this month, CNBC has learned. The move shows how JPMorgan, the biggest American investment bank by revenue, is responding to the latest untimely death on Wall Street. Later that month, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said his bank was examining what it could learn from the tragedy. The orange-robed icon looks on as the pilot speedily executes a dramatic last-minute turn to land the A319 on the slender runway. That’s just another normal working day at Bhutan’s Paro International Airport (PBH), widely considered one of the most technically difficult plane landings in the world. Paro is a category C airport, which means that pilots must have special training to fly there. As the national flag carrier, Druk Air has taken much of the responsibility for pilot training on itself. He believes there are 50 licensed pilots in Bhutan, but that number could easily double in the next few years.

WASHINGTON — Congress is considering boosting funding for the Secret Service after what the FBI called an apparent second attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life in 10 weeks. "Nobody's going to want to deny the Secret Service the funding that it needs as long as it justifies it." And Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, the 2016 Democratic vice presidential nominee, agreed that both parties would be "very amenable" to any Secret Service funding request. Trump's Secret Service detail on Sunday thwarted what the FBI characterized as a second apparent assassination attempt on him while he was golfing at his club in West Palm Beach, Florida. “One thing I want to make clear, the Secret Service needs more help.

Savings Accounts and C.D.sWhat’s happening now: The rate reversal is likely to be most disappointing for savers, who have benefited from juicier yields on everything from online savings accounts and certificates of deposit to money market funds. Those are all likely to inch lower, in line with the Fed’s move, but some providers may move faster than others. That usually depends on whether the bank wants to attract new customers by dangling yields that are more attractive than their competitors’ offerings. If you’re considering certificates of deposit, now is probably the time to lock in a decent rate if you haven’t already. Online savings accounts averaged 4.40 percent in August, down from 5.1 percent the same month last year.

LeanIn and McKinsey have released their annual Women in the Workplace Report, and while there are clear signs of progress, women also face major headwinds. Companies now offer significantly more work-life benefits than they did even five years ago: In 2024, 92% of companies offered paid maternity leave and 86% offered paid paternity leave, up from 2018, when 78% of companies offered paid maternity leave and 70% offered paid paternity leave. "We're seeing some progress, but it's pretty fragile," says Sheryl Sandberg, the founder and board chair of LeanIn. "People have added women to senior leadership in staff roles, but if you're looking for, 'Where's the CEO pipeline?' While women have reached the C-suite, they disproportionately oversee staff functions, she points out, like legal and HR.

Women also made gains since 2018 in becoming vice president and senior vice president, but again in staff roles. Half of companies also offer support for those employees caring for sick family members or elderly parents, the study found. The report found that for every 100 men who received their first opportunity to be a manager, only 81 women got the same offer. “Given that employees with consistent manager support are more likely to be promoted, it very likely disadvantages them,” the analysis said. “Research shows that companies with more women in leadership benefit from greater innovation, healthier cultures, and stronger performance.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., talks with reporters in the U.S. Capitol after the last votes of the week on Thursday, September 12, 2024. U.S House Speaker Mike Johnson said he would preserve some of the clean energy tax credits enacted under President Joe Biden but would seek to eliminate others, as an upcoming battle over taxes next year comes into focus in Washington. Johnson declined to specify which provisions he would support keeping in place, saying he's "not putting any of that on the table yet." More than a dozen members of Johnson's own party, many of whom face difficult re-election fights, asked the speaker in a letter last month to preserve some of the tax credits and deductions in the IRA. "Prematurely repealing energy tax credits, particularly those which were used to justify investments that already broke ground, would undermine private investments and stop development that is already ongoing," the 18 lawmakers wrote in the letter.

Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., sharply criticized other politicians on Tuesday for making public comments about what the Federal Reserve should do with its interest rate policy. McHenry, the outgoing chair of the House Financial Services Committee, said it was an '"outrage" that some politicians are publicly lobbying the central bank about rate cuts. "Senators that are trying to direct the Fed on rate policy are really demeaning their role. McHenry's comments came one day before the U.S. central bank is widely expected to start cutting interest rates for the first time since 2020. Coming in the middle of a presidential election cycle, the change in Fed policy has stirred speculation as to whether the central bank would be influenced by political considerations.

Trump won the presidency in 2016 by stunning Democrat Hillary Clinton to win all three states by a combined margin of about 80,000 votes. But, as in other states, Democrats have been concerned about the risk of depressed turnout and some gains for Trump among Black voters in Philadelphia. Eight years later, the two states split again, when Roosevelt comfortably won Pennsylvania and Michigan narrowly went to Republican Wendell Willkie. This trio of states has arguably become the most consistent tipping point in American politics. In the nine elections since 1920 when they split their vote, the candidate who carried two of these three states won seven times.

President Joe Biden’s administration is widely considered to be the most pro-LGBTQ in history, and as he enters his final months in the White House, Biden sat for an historic interview with one of the country’s oldest LGBTQ news outlets. In a wide-ranging interview published Monday in the Washington Blade, a D.C.-based LGBTQ newspaper founded more than half a century ago, Biden reiterated his commitment to the community while also speaking broadly about former President Donald Trump’s policies regarding the LGBTQ community and sharing his views on Project 2025. The interview is the first time a sitting president has spoken exclusively with an LGBTQ newspaper, according to the Blade. They noted that Biden has also appointed more LGBTQ officials to his administration than in any other administration in American history. Despite such advances for the community, Biden also spoke about the challenges all Americans face.

Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals sounded unconvinced Monday that the TikTok “sale or ban” law, signed by President Joe Biden in April, was unconstitutional. TikTok and ByteDance have since condemned the practice and said that three employees involved were terminated, with an additional employee resigning. Pincus also said that the data TikTok collects from American users is anonymized and is comparable to other Chinese companies, like major e-commerce platforms. TikTok creators and users in the U.S. have responded overwhelmingly negatively to the proposed ban. Trump then expressed support for TikTok following Biden’s passage of the national security package that included the provision to ban TikTok.
