Konya, Turkey CNN —When most people think of Turkey bucket list destinations, a few obvious ones spring to mind - Istanbul, Turquoise Coast hotspots like Bodrum or the otherworldly landscapes of Cappadocia. As well as being a renowned Islamic scholar, Rumi launched the Mevlevi Order of the Whirling Dervishes. And while they can be seen in various locations across Turkey, Konya is the beating heart of their activities. Abdullah Çetín, a photographer based in Konya, says the city and region’s history is also what puts it on the map. ☆ ‘World’s oldest bread,’ dating back 8,600 years, discovered in Turkey

CNN —Archeologists in Turkey say they have discovered the world’s oldest known bread, dating back to 6600 BC. Around the oven, archeologists found wheat, barley, pea seeds and a palm-sized, round, “spongy” residue, it said in a press release Wednesday. Flour and water had been mixed in, with the bread having been prepared next to the oven and kept for a while. “It is an exciting discovery for Turkey and the world,” Kavak said. The organic matter – both wood and bread – was preserved by thin clay that covered the structure, according to Türkcan.

However, the main characteristic of a patriarchal society is one where men hold more power and authority which subsequently leads to male privilege. As such, a woman's place in a patriarchal society is primarily to be homemakers, procreators or caregivers. Gender inequality -- the unequal treatment of someone based solely on their gender -- is an outcome of patriarchal societies but the terms do not mean the same thing. Despite strides towards sex equality that have been gaining momentum for more than a century, the US remains a patriarchal society. While not evenly accorded to all males, being assigned male at birth in a patriarchal society comes with privileges.
