Hoax bomb threats targeting polling places and election offices briefly disrupted voting in five battleground states, with the FBI saying the threats in four of those states came from Russian email domains. “The FBI is aware of bomb threats to polling locations in several states, many of which appear to originate from Russian email domains,” the FBI said in a statement Tuesday night. German officials accused Russia of orchestrating bomb threats against several polling places in Moldova’s presidential elections last week. Threats to polling sites and election offices were reported across about a dozen Pennsylvania counties, where targeted polling sites were ordered to stay open late, officials said. “But I think the number of these bomb threats is, if not surprising, very concerning,” he added.

Five people have been charged in Texas, accused of organizing and participating in an illegal cheating scheme that certified more than 200 unqualified teachers and saw the plot’s “kingpin” rake in more than $1 million, prosecutors announced. Investigators noticed a pattern: Numerous teacher certification candidates who previously failed certification exams would drive from faraway Texas cities to the Houston area to take an exam. Then a tip came in that exposed the cheating scheme. Crude oil futures rose for a second day Thursday as weak jobs data has boosted investor that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates this year. Separately, the European Central Bank trimmed its interest rates for the first time since 2019. Lower interest rates bring the hope of more robust economic growth and stronger oil demand. Moreover, rising oil inventories are expected to shift to draws in the third quarter with the OPEC+ cuts remaining in place at least until October, according to JPMorgan. "We think oil markets have overreacted to the mildly negative OPEC+ meeting outcome," Barclays analyst Amarpreet Singh told clients in a Thursday note.

Meta (META), which also owns WhatsApp and Instagram, said Wednesday that first-quarter profit more than doubled year-on-year, while revenue was up 27%. Meta said full-year capital expenditure would be in the range of $35-40 billion — up from previous guidance of $30-37 billion — as it continues to accelerate infrastructure investments to support AI.
