What can news outlets do to regain trust and appeal to new audiences without alienating existing readers and viewers? For the past week, CNN’s media team has been receiving feedback from readers of the Reliable Sources newsletter. Mainstream media outlets have been losing public trust for decades, particularly among Republicans, but also among Democrats and independents. Maybe, CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan commented last week, the media collectively spent “too much time obsessing about polling (where did that get us?) Starting in mid-August, we spoke regularly to 13 young voters who were torn about their choice in the presidential election, to track how and why their opinions were evolving. “I can’t believe it, but I did end up voting for Donald Trump,” said Abigail, a 23-year-old Virginian who backed Mr. Biden last time. She felt Mr. Trump was a strong leader, liked his choice of JD Vance and felt Democrats made assumptions based on gender. Even those in our group who sharply disagreed with one another felt a measure of appreciation for the chance to talk and listen.

The 18 cabins, including three grand suites and 15 suites, will be of an exquisite opulence not before seen on Britain’s rails. The Cornwall itinerary, in England’s southwest tip, takes in the rugged coastline of Penzance and the charming villages surrounding Lostwithiel.
