Australia was crowned champion during the Netball World Cup Medal Presentation on August 6, 2023 in Cape Town, South Africa. “I think the leadership within netball, from World Netball, really needs to take a vigilant stance on it. For people in the netball world, she said, “That is your bread and butter: doing netball. More than 20 million people play netball in 76 member nations across five continents, according to World Netball. There are some voices in netball that don’t believe the drive to become an Olympic sport is a priority.

A few days before Biden’s speech in Maine, the Fed approved raising interest rates to their highest level in more than 22 years, continuing an aggressive inflation-busting campaign. Customers are also being pinched with higher interest rates,” a food, beverage and tobacco products manufacturer told the ISM in its August survey. “When we built our first building, interest rates were around 14% or so, and that was in the early ’80s,” she said. “We’ve seen some plans go on hold or on a slower burn until those companies see what happens with interest rates and the economy,” he said. Recession or not, the bull case for US manufacturing has the industry — and Biden — in a good mood.

Atmospheric CO2 now 50% higher than pre-industrial level -NOAA

Measurements are taken in May because it is the month when CO2 peaks in the Northern Hemisphere. The outpost on Mauna Loa has measured atmospheric CO2 since 1958, when the level was less than 320 ppm, and shown a steady increase since then in what NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad called "a direct result of human activity." NOAA began collaborating with Scripps on the measurements in 1974. This year's measurements were taken from a temporary site because lava flows cut off access to the Mauna Loa observatory in November 2022, NOAA said. (This story has been corrected to change NOAA's previously reported figure as 424 ppm and not 423 ppm, in paragraph 2.

The general counsel of the NLRB determined that the coffee chain violated labor law by refusing to participate in collective bargaining sessions if some workers were present via video-conference, the report said. "Now that it's clear we have the right to bargain using a virtual component, we hope Starbucks is ready, too," Tyler Keeling, a Starbucks' union leader from California said in a statement. Starbucks and the NLRB did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment. Employees at more than 280 out of Starbucks' roughly 9,000 company-operated U.S. locations have voted to join a labor union since 2021. The union is seeking better pay and benefits, improved health and safety conditions and protections against unfair dismissal and discipline.
Starbucks, union at odds over hybrid negotiations
  + stars: | 2023-03-28 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
March 28 (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O), which has faced criticism over its opposition to union organizing, said the labor union representing some of its stores has rejected in-person bargaining sessions and is insisting on hybrid negotiations. Starbucks Workers United, which represents thousands of U.S. baristas at about 200 cafes, conducted unauthorized virtual broadcasts of bargaining sessions without prior agreement from all parties, Starbucks said in a statement to Reuters on Monday. "Workers United is asking for a seat at the table, we're simply encouraging them take their seat in-person at the negotiating table, as required, to move the bargaining process forward," the company said. This comes after National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) prosecutors alleged that Starbucks violated labor law by refusing to engage in bargaining if some workers were attending remotely via videoconference, according to a Bloomberg report. "Now that it's clear we have the right to bargain using a virtual component, we hope Starbucks is ready, too," Tyler Keeling, a leader of the Starbucks Workers United in California said.
Mauna Loa Eruption Threatens a Famous Climate Record

But none hold quite the same symbolism as Mauna Loa, which is home to the first and most frequently cited data. Even now, when scientists want to test new carbon dioxide monitoring equipment, “they go to Mauna Loa,” Dr. Sweeney said.
CNN —The longest-running climate equipment used to measure carbon dioxide levels in the Earth’s atmosphere lost power Monday evening and is currently not recording data because of Mauna Loa’s volcanic eruption in Hawaii. Mauna Loa, the world’s largest active volcano, erupted early Monday morning for the first time in 38 years, sending lava flows cascading down slope, impacting the road used to access the Mauna Loa Observatory. The Keeling Curve graph comprises daily carbon dioxide concentration measurements taken at Mauna Loa since 1958. The fact that the tool has measured the changes of carbon dioxide levels for more than 60 years virtually uninterrupted has made it the authority source on the key greenhouse gas. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also measures carbon dioxide at Mauna Loa using a different instrument.
New York CNN Business —More than 2,000 employees at 112 Starbucks locations are set to go on a one-day strike Thursday, according to the union which has been organizing stores for the last year. The union says it is striking to protest the retaliation taken against union supporters nationwide. It’s not clear how many of the stores affected by Thursday’s action will be able to stay open during the strike. The union is calling its strike a “Red Cup Rebellion” and is handing out red Starbucks Workers United union cups to customers instead. The NLRB filing said that there had been a “number and pattern of Starbucks’ unfair labor practices … particularly discharges” against union supporters at it stores.
REUTERS/Russell Cheyne/File PhotoNov 2 (Reuters) - This year’s U.N. climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, marks the 27th time since 1995 that world leaders have gathered to confront global warming. Here are some key moments in the global climate conversation:1800s - Throughout the 1800s, several European scientists study how different gases and vapours can trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere. 1990 - At the U.N.’s so-called Second World Climate Conference, scientists highlight the risks of global warming to nature and society. 2015 - Global warming passes 1 degree Celsius. Signatories promise to try to keep global warming within 1.5 degrees C of the preindustrial average.
CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday highlighted his list of "dirty dozen" companies that exemplify the losses incurred by investors who funneled their cash into initial public offerings and other risky stocks. "Some of the most egregious offenders were the dirty dozen that hit you with repeated unsportsmanlike conduct … and ultimately put your portfolio on injured reserve," he said. Here are the dirty dozen:Cramer came up with his list by running a screen on initial public offerings from 2020 and 2021 that are now down 50% or more from their 52-week highs. U.S.-listed companies raised only $4.8 billion through their initial public offerings in the first half of this year compared to over $155 billion in 2021, according to EY and Dealogic. Cramer added that the decline in SPACs, or special purpose acquisition companies, is reminiscent of the dotcom collapse.
