"There's very little genuine information and data on pricing," he told CNBC via video call. CNBC contacted a dozen New York City art galleries and the same number in London to request price lists for their current exhibitions. "The degree of popularity, the level of scarcity and the degree of credentialization [or] … if something has organically captured the zeitgeist," are factors, he told CNBC by phone. "Despite more online information aiding discovery and valuation, there really isn't a highly liquid global marketplace, contributing to perceptions and realities of 'black box' pricing," Tjan told CNBC in a follow-up email. And that massive total doesn't include fundraising by the main pro-Trump super PAC, MAGA Inc., which will file its fundraising reports by Sunday. Adelson gave $95 million to Preserve America, a super PAC she’s almost entirely funded, during the third fundraising quarter, after previously giving the group $5 million in the prior quarter. Right for America, another pro-Trump group, raised $28 million last quarter — with multimillion-dollar checks from Andreesen, Horowitz and Perlmutter as well as Perlmutter's wife, Lara. The super PAC has spent heavily on the presidential race as well as on the Wisconsin Senate and Maine 2nd Congressional District campaigns. It's been a year since New York City began enforcing its near-ban on short-term rentals, including Airbnbs. While the number of short-term rentals has plummeted, the effect on the housing market is unclear. AdvertisementNew York City's ban on most short-term rentals was supposed to make housing cheaper in the city. In September 2023, NYC began enforcing new regulations — known as Local Law 18 or LL18 — that severely restricted short-term rentals. With so many Airbnbs out of the short-term rental picture, they've been able to charge more.

Americans are more eager to vote early than they were before the pandemic, but a deep partisan divide on early voting remains, the latest national NBC News poll shows. Another 47% said they plan to vote early (20% by mail and 27% in person). Overall, 52% of voters said they're planning to cast their ballots early this year, with 44% planning to vote in person on Election Day. (By late October, the share of people saying they'd vote early had risen to 68%.) The partisan divide between those voting early and on Election Day remains stark, after years of former President Donald Trump and his Republican allies attacking the legitimacy of early voting.

In total, Larsen has given around $1.9 million to support Harris' campaign directly and through PACs, according to FEC data compiled by crypto market and blockchain analyst James Delmore and independently verified by CNBC. Three U.S.-based academics won the 2024 Nobel economics prize on Monday for their research into why global inequality persists, especially in countries dogged by corruption and dictatorship. The laureates have demonstrated the importance of societal institutions for achieving this,” said Jakob Svensson, Chair of the Committee for the Prize in Economic Sciences. Last year, Harvard economic historian Claudia Goldin won the prize for her work highlighting the causes of wage and labour market inequality between men and women. In 2019, economists Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer won the award for work on fighting poverty. The economics prize has been dominated by U.S. academics since its inception, while U.S.-based researchers also tend to account for a large portion of winners in the scientific fields for which 2024 laureates were announced last week.

“It used to be that if you made the median income, you could afford the median-priced house,” said Domonic Purviance, a housing expert at the Atlanta Federal Reserve. Their mortgage rate was 8.125% — above the roughly 7% national average at the time, which was hovering near 20-year highs. While that ratio is less than the cost-burdened 30% threshold, it has doubled in the area in just the last three years. From 2013 to 2023, the median annual household income in the U.S. has risen 50%, to $80,610.
