These announcements come on the heels of a series of nationwide support measures for the property sector, including lower mortgage rates for first-time homebuyers. China's debt-riddled property sector accounts for one-quarter of the state's economic activity. But of making books about Shakespeare there is no end. In particular, a set of questions about the writer—concerning identity, authorship, legitimacy—has vexed readers for centuries. Of Shakespeare, we know a few things, but lack of knowledge has never prevented people from speculating, sometimes wildly.

Bank of Canada says interest rates may not be high enough

REUTERS/Blair Gable/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsBy Steve Scherer and David LjunggrenOTTAWA, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem on Thursday said interest rates may not be high enough to bring inflation back down to target, sending a hawkish message after holding borrowing costs at a 22-year high a day earlier. The central bank hiked rates by a quarter point in both June and July in a bid to tame stubbornly high inflation. "We don't want to raise our policy rate more than we have to," Macklem said, adding that persistently high inflation would be worse for Canadians than high borrowing costs. (The cruelty and neglect at these schools was real but the specific claims about graves at the B.C. school have outrun the so-far scanty evidence.) The first is a general tendency of provincial leaders to go overboard in establishing their solidarity and identification with the elites of the imperial core. The second point is the role of secularization and de-Christianization, which are further advanced in the British Isles and Canada than in the United States. Then the third point is that smaller countries with smaller elites can find it easier to enforce ideological conformity than countries that are more sprawling and diverse.

Fuzhou closed subway lines and suspended trains while schools were shut for a second day. Elsewhere in Fujian, six other cities including Putian and Quanzhou were flagged at risk of flash floods and landslides. From this view, it can seem that the United States is following the course of all empires: doomed to decline and eventual fall. To call America an empire is admittedly to court controversy, or at least confusion. After all, the United States claims dominion over no countries and even prodded its allies to renounce their colonies. But there’s an illuminating precedent for the kind of imperial project the United States forged after the war: the Roman Empire. Like modern America, Rome attained a degree of supremacy unprecedented in its day.

One-Man Party Xi overturned term limits, erased factions and installed loyalists to establish sweeping control of the Communist Party. CNN —China has launched a sweeping anti-corruption campaign targeting its hospitals, pharmaceutical industry and insurance funds as it grapples with mounting economic challenges and long-standing public frustration about high costs in the behemoth healthcare sector. Some areas have set up hotlines for phoning in tips about corruption in the sector, according to state media. At least one state media report has described the campaign as “unprecedented in the depth, breadth and intensity” of targeting the healthcare sector. Despite wide health insurance coverage, absolute costs of healthcare can be a heavy burden for many in China. “Given the economic slowdown and the shrinking fiscal revenue, the debt-ridden local governments really don’t have the capabilities to invest more in the medical sector and corruption continues to be an issue,” said Huang.
