He's the latest former DeSantis ally to take a shot at the governor's struggling presidential campaign. Gruters told The Washington Post that he "fully expected the downfall" of DeSantis' campaign. DeSantis' campaign has clearly struggled early on. Rep. Byron Donalds, another former DeSantis ally who also endorsed Trump, said he knew that DeSantis just didn't excel at building relationships. A representative for DeSantis' campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Just as important will be persuading people like Mr. Marohn that electric cars, renewable energy and electric heaters and stoves are practical, economical and exciting. Many, conservatives in particular, chafe at the prospect of the government forcing them to buy electric cars or ditch their natural gas appliances, polls show. By The New York TimesA clean energy future will require painstaking and individually tailored persuasion campaigns. “Even if some of them deny the science of climate change, they can’t deny good-paying jobs,” he said. “I just want to change the perception that electric cars are not as good as big, noisy muscle cars,” Mr. Lawson said.

It’s Not Reagan’s Party Anymore

Mr. Trump’s first primary campaign amounted to a hostile takeover of the old Republican Party. Perhaps surprisingly, the poll found little evidence that Republican voters who still sit upon Mr. Reagan’s stool make up an outsized share of the G.O.P. Either way, Mr. Trump has more than 50 percent of the primary vote among the Reaganites — and more than 50 percent of the anti-Reaganite vote. Mr. Trump’s support among the vestigial, traditionally conservative wing of the party is a reminder that his takeover of the party didn’t necessarily amount to a total repudiation of the conservative agenda. After all, Mr. Trump still cut income taxes, attempted to repeal Obamacare and appointed Supreme Court justices who helped overturn Roe v. Wade.

“Deer Woman’s New Certificate-of-Indian-Blood-Skin” by Natalie Ball, which suggests a kind of quilted explosion, certainly has presence. Larger than either are fiber weavings, modeled on Indigenous jewelry forms, by Eric-Paul Riege, the exhibition’s youngest participant. Riege uses them as props in performances — pushes them aside, moves them around — and visitors are permitted (encouraged, even) to touch them. Sound was a vital component of the 1969 vision for a new American Indian Theater, which I take to mean a new Indian Art. In the early 1960s, when a craze for folk and ethnic music was high, a company called Indian Records, Inc. released many LPs of Native music.

The enameled dial of a new custom watch by Vacheron Constantin depicts grimacing soldiers and their lunging horses, all engaged in deadly combat. Unveiled in May, it is the Swiss watchmaker’s reproduction of “The Fight for the Standard” from the “Battle of Anghiari,” a 1603 drawing by the Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens that is kept — behind the scenes, and viewable by appointment — in the Department of Graphic Arts of the Louvre in Paris. “This timepiece is the first in a new program called ‘A Masterpiece on the Wrist’ we have developed with the Louvre,” Christian Selmoni, the watch brand’s director of style and heritage, wrote in an email. “We invite clients to choose from a catalog of works defined with the museum, and we will reproduce the artwork on the dial of a unique watch.”

Why nuclear fusion is so important for global energy needsWe see the colossal power of nuclear fusion in action every day — the sun. Meaning that unlike fossil fuels, nuclear fusion doesn't contribute to greenhouse gases in the atmosphere that are driving climate change. It was a major breakthrough and the first time a fusion experiment had ever generated an energy surplus. Why nuclear fusion beats nuclear fissionCurrent nuclear power plants use fission to make energy. While fission creates a chain reaction, nuclear fusion reactors of the future would not, avoiding the risk of a meltdown.

In 2015, Ryan, the House speaker then, denounced Trump’s proposed Muslim ban as “not conservatism,” “not what this party stands for” and “not what this country stands for.” Then-Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana privately complained that Trump was “unacceptable,” according to the G.O.P. Their point was simply that Trump couldn’t win. So why oppose Trump in 2024? “Because I want to win,” Ryan said, “and we lose with Trump.

For Trump and Koch, it represents the latest chapter in the on again, off again relationship between the two parties. The theme of the ads is simple: Trump can't win, and with Trump as the Republican nominee, President Joe Biden will be reelected. The ads have landed the Koch network squarely on Trump's list of enemies, literally. It’s hard to beat summer in the city — except maybe on the very hottest days. And if you’re lucky enough to have a little outdoor space, like a balcony, terrace or patio, it’s even better. Christine and John Gachot, the designers who founded the New York interiors studio Gachot, have a little experience with that. The multilevel penthouse once belonged to the revered modernist architect Paul Rudolph, and it has a sweeping view of the East River, Roosevelt Island and the Pepsi-Cola sign in Long Island City from the largest terrace on the top level. “Having an outdoor space in the city is incredible,” said Mr. Gachot, 53.

Of all the great flesh-and-blood cartoons of 1980s popular culture — Hulk Hogan, Madonna, Mr. T — the one easiest for small children to relate to was Pee-wee Herman. In reality, Pee-wee Herman was nothing like us at all, a dreamy man-child in a red bow tie whose sugary smile could curl into a punky scowl. A singular piece of comic performance art for a mass audience, Pee-wee Herman stood out in every form he appeared in, whether improv theaters, late-night talk shows, the movies or Saturday morning television. The world of Pee-wee is full of this loopy surrealism that could veer into innuendo but never got dark. It was always welcoming, wildly diverse, profoundly silly.

The comedian Paul Reubens, a.k.a. Though Pinky Lee is an unfamiliar name today, it would not have been to a man of Mr. Reubens’s generation. Pee-wee Herman was born Paul Rubenfeld in 1952 in Peekskill, NY; Mr. Lee was born Pincus Leff in 1907 in Saint Paul, Minn. Rubenfeld, who was a talented child actor, would rename himself Reubens and become an improv comic. His early work with the The Groundlings in Los Angeles, notably in a Pinky parody skit, would eventually form the basis for one of the more indelible characters in show business. Mr. Lee came up through the ranks as a tap dancer on the vaudeville circuit.

Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) reported strong second-quarter profits and cash flow after the bell Tuesday, but favorable revisions to its guidance shined the brightest. Pioneer's Q2 oil production came in toward the top of its guidance, at 369.1 thousand barrels per day (MBbls/d). For the third quarter, Pioneer expects its total production to average between 705 and 725 MBoe/d, with oil production specifically to average between 367 and 377 MBbls/d. Actor Paul Reubens arrives as a guest for Comedy Central television's South Park The Tenth Season party in Los Angeles September 21, 2006. Actor Paul Reubens, who came to fame in the 1980s as children's TV star Pee-wee Herman, has died years after a cancer diagnosis, his team said Monday. Reubens rocketed to fame for creating the sarcastic but good-natured man-child Pee-wee Herman, a character whose red bowtie and sneering catch phrases — "I know you are, but what am I?" That eventually led to Reubens' big break, the 1985 movie "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," helmed by first-time feature film director Tim Burton. The success of "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" led to Reubens landing a Saturday morning CBS show, "Pee-wee's Playhouse."

“Pee-wee’s Playhouse” stands as one of the oddest, most audacious, most unclassifiable shows in television history. In one episode, Pee-wee married a fruit salad. The show arrived in the midst of Ronald Reagan’s presidential administration and harked back to another button-down era, the one Mr. Reubens lived as a child: the 1950s. ‘‘I saw it as very Norman Rockwell,” he told The New York Times in 2016, ‘‘but it was my Norman Rockwell version of the ’50s, which was more all-inclusive.”Laurence Fishburne, S. Paul Reubens, who died on Sunday at age 70, will always be remembered for his beloved alter ego, the perpetually childlike Pee-wee Herman — a character so popular that it was able to carry a stage show, movies and a TV series. But Reubens also made memorable impressions playing a variety of supporting characters of the big and small screens — like Penguin’s father in “Batman Returns” and the turtleneck-wearing fixer Mr. Vargas in “The Blacklist,” just to name a few out of dozens. Here is a list of Reubens’s greatest hits and how to watch them. “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” premiered on CBS in 1986, the year I graduated from high school, which means I was probably too old for it. Or maybe too young. (Among them was a young Laurence Fishburne as Cowboy Curtis, wielding an animated lasso.) The overstuffed set, with its midcentury candy palette and zigzag angles, looked like a B-52s album you could live inside. Pee-wee the character was a parody — a high-on-Pixy-Stix exaggeration of the clean-cut kids’ hosts of the 1950s, a Howdy Doody who brought himself to life.

Johnson & Johnson on Thursday said its shareholders will soon be able to swap their shares for stock of Kenvue , which spun out as an independent consumer health company just two months ago. That process, also known as a split-off, will allow J&J shareholders to exchange all or a portion of their shares for Kenvue's common stock. Kenvue shares fell following the announcement Thursday, even though the company beat earnings and revenue estimates in its first quarterly report since its IPO. Previously, J&J did not disclose whether it would divest its Kenvue shares through a split-off or a spinoff. The latter would involve distributing Kenvue stock to existing J&J shareholders rather than giving them the option to exchange.
