President-elect Donald Trump signaled Friday his intention to nominate hedge fund executive Scott Bessent as his Treasury secretary, in a move that puts a seasoned market pro and a close Trump loyalist in a critical economic position. As head of Treasury, Bessent, 62, will be both the U.S. fiscal watchdog as well as a key official to help Trump enact his ambitious economic agenda. Like Trump, Bessent favors gradual tariffs and deregulation to push American business and control inflation. The Treasury secretary is the lynchpin for the White House economic agenda. Spain's Ministry of Consumer Rights on Friday slapped a $179 million euro ($186 million) fine on five low-budget airlines for "abusive practices" including charging additional cabin luggage fees. Spanish low-cost airline Vueling was ordered to pay 39.2 million euros and EasyJet was fined 29 million euros. Scandinavia's second-largest airline Norwegian and Spanish airline Volotea each received penalties in excess of 1 million euros. The five airlines should discontinue their practice of requiring additional payment for cabin luggage and reserving a seat near a dependent traveler, the ministry said. "We completely disagree with the decision of the Spanish Consumer Ministry and find the proposed sanctions outrageous," an EasyJet statement said, stressing it considers its cabin luggage policy to be aligned with all applicable laws.

A Maryland man recently made a remarkable discovery in the Chesapeake Bay: An almost-whole human skeleton that appears to be at least a century old. NBC Washington reported George Oliver, who lives in Calvert County, was walking the shores of the bay on Nov. 4, looking for fossils, as he usually does. Oliver told the station that he could see the coffin, but that it was completely submerged in water. "When I first found it, you could not tell that there was human remains," Oliver told NBC Washington. When he found the coffin, Oliver assumed that leg bone might have been a part of the newly-discovered skeleton.
