Japan plans to buy 400 Tomahawk missiles from the United States, part of its biggest military build-up since World War Two. (Reuters) - Germany's Bayer AG said on Sunday it is cancelling a phase III study program to investigate the efficacy and safety of asundexian, an oral Factor XIa (FXIa) inhibitor. The decision to stop the study is based on the recommendation by the Independent Data Monitoring Committee (IDMC). IDMC monitoring showed an inferior efficacy of asundexian compared to the control arm of the study. "A phase III study investigating asundexian compared to Apixaban in patients with atrial fibrillation at risk for stroke is being stopped early," the company said in a statement. Bayer, which initiated the study in August 2022, said it will further analyze the data to understand the outcome and will take appropriate measures.

If the purchase is finalized it will have bought back about 6 million barrels. Last month the Energy Department said it hopes to buy 3 million barrels for December delivery and another 3 million for January at the higher price. It said it expects to issue additional oil purchase solicitations for the reserve on a monthly basis through at least May 2024.

The fuel is only meant for U.N. trucks, and not for hospitals, the source said. Gaza health officials have suspended operations at many of the enclave's hospitals due to lack of fuel and other supplies. Colonel Moshe Terto, who heads an Israeli defence ministry body that handles civil affairs in Gaza, said Israel is monitoring the fuel situation "on a daily basis".

He said those groups were also prepared to respond to Israeli military operations against that facility. Israeli forces have surrounded Gaza City's Al Shifa hospital, the biggest in the enclave, which they say sits atop an underground headquarters of Hamas militants. The fate of Al Shifa in particular has become a focus of international alarm, including from Israel's closest ally, the United States.

Changes will be implemented as of the market close on Nov. 30, MSCI announced in its quarterly index review. The three largest additions to the MSCI ACWI from developed markets will be Vertiv Holdings (VRT.N) and Celsius Holdings (CELH.O) from the United States, and Italy’s Leonardo (LDOF.MI). It will also add 16 and delete 25 securities from the MSCI China All Shares Index. The largest additions will be these same companies.
