CNN —Detroit Lions star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson was carted off the field with a broken tibia in the team’s 47-9 blowout victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Early in the third quarter, Hutchinson injured himself after sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. As he went to wrap up the QB, his leg collided with a teammate’s leg and he immediately fell to the ground. The Lions would rule him out for the rest of the game with a lower leg injury. Lions running back David Montgomery called Hutchinson’s injury an “unfortunate loss” for the team.

Delta Air Lines had to suspend hot meal service on more than 200 flights out of its Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport hub over the past several days because of a "food safety issue." Delta said that operations from the facility were shut down and hot food will be managed by other kitchens. "During a recent inspection at a DTW kitchen, Delta's catering partner was notified of a food safety issue within the facility," Delta said in a statement on Sunday. "Delta and its catering partner immediately shut down hot food production and subsequently suspended all activity from the facility. Hot food and other onboard provisioning will be managed from other facilities."

Washington CNN —Former President Donald Trump is once again pledging to save American manufacturing and bring back jobs by rewriting a trade agreement with Mexico and Canada. But this time, instead of replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement, known as NAFTA, which he has often described as the “worst trade deal ever made,” he wants to renegotiate his own trade deal. When asked by Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo in an interview that aired Sunday about his plan to renegotiate the USMCA, Trump said it would not undermine the deal he put together. Study after study, including one from the federal government’s bipartisan US International Trade Commission, has found that Americans have borne almost the entire cost of Trump’s tariffs on Chinese products. When Trump was in office, he implemented tariffs on about $380 billion worth of goods imported into the US, according to a Tax Foundation analysis. The Trump tariffs also hit foreign steel, aluminum, washing machines and solar panels. But even if Trump implements tariffs on all US imports, the resulting revenue is unlikely to cover all these costs. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget recently estimated that Trump’s tariff plan would not generate enough revenue to pay for his other spending proposals.

A Detroit man was arrested after allegedly slashing the neck of a 7-year-old girl this week at a park. Lansky approached the girl at the park and cut her throat with a knife before fleeing the scene, Detroit police said. A spokesperson for Detroit police said the department already completed its investigation and handed it to the prosecutor's office, which determined the charges. He was released on $2 million bond and placed under house arrest with a GPS tether, according to the prosecutor's office. A bond redetermination hearing is set for Monday and a probable cause conference is scheduled for Wednesday, the prosecutor's office said.

☆ Trump to propose new tax break on car loan interest

Republican presidential nominee, former U.S. President Donald Trump, speaks at the Detroit Economic Club on October 10, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. Donald Trump on Thursday will support making interest on car loans fully tax deductible, the latest in a suite of tax-cut promises the Republican presidential nominee has made in the weeks before Election Day. Trump, in a speech to the Detroit Economic Club, will compare the plan to an existing tax deduction on mortgage interest, according to excerpts provided beforehand by the Trump campaign. The plan "will stimulate massive domestic auto production, and make car ownership dramatically more affordable for millions of working American families," Trump will say. Trump has already voiced support on the campaign trail for a slew of other tax breaks, including ending taxation of service workers' tips and seniors' Social Security benefits.
