Baylor University's $2 billion endowment — a fraction of those in the Ivy League — generated a 6.4% return for the fiscal year that ended June 30, outperforming the entire conference. Morehead joined the university in 2011, and since fiscal 2012, Baylor's endowment has more than doubled. The key to Baylor's endowment success, according to Chief Investment Officer David Morehead, is taking advantage of dislocations in the market. This increase comes as endowment returns have rebounded nationally. Endowment returns were up 7.7% in fiscal 2023, per the latest study by the National Association of College and University Business Officers and Commonfund.

"We were in a situation where folks accepted that Black unemployment was going to always be high and there was nothing that they could do about it. The Black unemployment rate in January was 5.3%, up a touch from December but still near the all-time low of 4.8% hit in April 2023. For Black workers, weekly before-tax earnings as of the end of 2023 have risen 24.8% since the first quarter of 2020. "High unemployment for Black workers is a solvable problem," Fulton said. Black workers are interested in tech and believe there are opportunities.

New York CNN —The co-chair of a newly formed task force fighting antisemitism at Harvard University has abruptly stepped down after barely a month at the helm. The Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance, which the Globe said is leading the campaign, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. When Garber announced the presidential task force on antisemitism, he tapped Sadun and Harvard professor Derek Penslar to co-chair it. Penslar remains on the presidential task force, after receiving significant internal and external support. The rest of the antisemitism task force is being filled out by various students, professors and administrators at Harvard.

That's the message billionaire Peter Thiel is sending as he extends a fellowship program that offers $100,000 to students willing to skip college and develop a company instead. The PayPal founder started the program in 2010 with an initial group of 24 young people. Thiel has said he originally started the venture to prove that the American college system is not for everyone. Thiel told the Journal he decided to extend the program in part because he thinks American universities are now overly "woke," inspiring him to encourage young people to steer clear. "Our view is it's still an outside game, getting people out," Thiel told the outlet.

New York CNN —Harvard University and its interim president have condemned an image circulated on social media by pro-Palestinian campus groups, prompting the groups to remove and apologize for the posting. The three groups that circulated the image issued their own statements criticizing it. The groups said they had removed the image, but “it should never have been published to begin with. Garber assumed the post of interim president after former Harvard President Claudine Gay resigned last month amid criticism that she and the school had not responded sufficiently against antisemitism on campus. The criticism about Harvard’s response to antisemitism on campus has prompted some major financial donors to withdraw support of the school.

New York CNN —A congressional committee investigating campus antisemitism took the unprecedented step of issuing multiple subpoenas to Harvard University on Friday, compelling the Ivy League school to turn over documents lawmakers are seeking. Three different Harvard officials are being subpoenaed: Alan Garber, Harvard’s interim president; Penny Pritzker, the billionaire leader of the Harvard Corporation, the governing board of the school; and N.P. The subpoenas order the Harvard officials to produce a series of documents by 5 pm ET on March 4. That list included meeting minutes since Hamas’ October 7 terror attacks on Israel and communications by university officials related to antisemitism. “Given the breadth and extensive nature of the information Harvard has provided to the Committee, it is unfortunate that the Committee has chosen to issue subpoenas,” Swain said.

Four is her favorite number. Beyoncé and Jay-Z's birthdays both fall on the fourth day of their respective months. In fact, she loves the number so much she and her husband, Jay-Z, have the Roman numeral of it, IV, tattooed on their ring fingers. Some fans have suggested the Roman numeral, which stands for four, inspired the second part of the couple's daughter's name, Blue Ivy. The name Ivy is pronounced the same way the letters "I" and "V" would be.

CNN —The University of Pennsylvania submitted documents Wednesday evening to the Congressional committee investigating antisemitism on campus, beginning what could be a weekslong process of turning over documents. Nick Barley, a spokesperson for the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, confirmed to CNN the committee received documents from UPenn and is currently reviewing them. The university told CNN on Tuesday that it planned a “rolling production” of documents that would take place over the next few weeks. Last month, the committee wrote a letter to UPenn demanding a slew of documents to aid that investigation. “We have grave concerns regarding the inadequacy of Penn’s response to antisemitism on its campus,” Rep.
